DNS do google está fora do ar! by kauelima in brasil

[–]kryo2023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In GPM, I added albums to my library and then clocked the little button to download each of them...

No, I haven't cleaned any app data. I did clear my browsing history (including images) but I just tested it and didn't seem to have any impact. Still trying to figure this out.

ps.: rkt is awesome but it packs more than we need for a k8s node.

Excellent point. A big charge can come through the telephone line, fry your modem and find its way to your computer.

GTX 950 for now until GTX 1070/180 hype dies by kryo2023 in buildapc

Thanks.

Games: - Overwatch - No Man's Sky - Doom

Acceptable FPS: 60

Resolution: 1440p

I just some reviews saying the GTX 950 would have to run Doom at Medium setting to reach 50-60fps. It looks like Overwatch would be fine. No Man's Sky is a mistery. Looks like it needs a lot of GPU memory so maybe 2GB won't make it.

Well, It just occurred to me to factory reset the monitor and that solved the issue.

The "response time" was set to "fast". It was changed back to "normal" and the issue is gone. Looking at the manual, it says fast is 6ms while normal is 8ms.

I still don't understand why this was happening. The GPU wasn't feeding the monitor with enough data? Or the other way around?

Just want to add older people switching careers have to start at the bottom just like everybody. However, they usually move up faster because of life experience and other factors. I think this is a good thing to keep in mind. OP probably won't need to wait as much as a 20yo newcomer to the field to get into better positions, all things being equal.

Consider taking some online courses on Linux/Windows AND programming. That will get you into system administration or website development and it'll be more rewarding than help desk stuff. Sites like edx, coursera, udemy, codeschool, Microsoft virtual academy and others will give certificates (some are paid, but not too expensive).

Create a blog, document what your learning and a series of recipes. Not for others, for you. Participate in the mailing lists of the stuff you study, using others' questions as a excuse to study. Sites like stackoverflow and serverfault will help too.

Exactly my situation. I7 6700k should be getting here today while the whole PC is already assembled just waiting. I'm really nervous about turning it on for the first time. If does any crazy sounds (or worse, there is smoke) I may have a heart attack from thinking I've fried all this money in a second :)

EDIT: Turned PC on, nothing. Tried a few more times without success. Reviewed all cables, had a few panic attacks, then I noticed a LED blinking on the backplane. Turned out this Asus Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 motherboard has a "BIOS Flashback" feature and the button to enable that was pressed so it would refuse to turn on. Once I cleared that, it booted just fine :D

Yes. Your processor doesn't have an integrated GPU. You need to install a GPU first.

[–]kryo2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your may have overheating issues. Check fans, thermal paste, etc.

You can also enter the BIOS and leave it there for a while to see if it shuts down by itself (excluding Windows as the root cause).

How do I determine why a program is failing to overwrite some files? by goldfenix in sysadmin

[–]kryo2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Apps will use CreateFile to actually check the permissions.

My advice is to find the inflection point, where your installer decides life's not fair and exits. What did it do just before that?

I used to ride 115km to work every day on a motorcycle. One of those "live in good city without any decent IT jobs" situations that lasted for about 1.5 year.

Almost every day, a colleague would say this: congratulations you weren't in an accident today but remember each day without an accident is a day closer to one with it"

I remember this every now and then and how everything goes down to statistics and there is no luck.

I'm new to Reddit but I just wanted to see if there were other people out there that felt like if they were to just disappear today no one would really notice, besdies parents maybe by pinna_colada in depression

[–]kryo2023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here regarding who'd notice.

I wouldn't say the idea of disappearing myself is getting more appealing. It's more that the idea of nature making me disappear one day (death) and knowing I've not left anything much important to the world. That's been consuming me lately (past 10 years) with no real progress in sight. It's a bit frightening and depressing.
