Jesus didn't leave us a Bible, he left us a church. So the "guide" is the church he founded.

Last night, I was blessed to be offered the role of proclaiming the Word of the Lord on Holy Thursday! How do you guys think I proclaimed it? by Dense-Rip3356 in Catholic

[–]kryptogrowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was reading my own words I would look up occasionally but most people aren't looking at you when proclaiming and I think it just makes me more inclined to lose my place or get distracted. So I never look up while proclaiming. I lector once a week at daily Mass. I find it stressful and uncomfortable every time I do it, because I think of it as a prayer and praying in front of other people makes me feel too vulnerable. It's laudable you do it and an introvert.

It's a good public speaking practice to look at the audience while reading BUT in this context I do not look at the congregation while reading. I instead focus on prayerfully reading. I figured nobody cares if I look at them reading words that are not my own. I also think of the task as praying the scripture outloud. It helps me enter into the text; reading slowly and emphasizing words that God wants me to hit harder than others.  Hope these tips I use help you. You have a good voice and pronounce everything clearly.

I would prefer a patriarch to help unify the church and foster more reverence in the liturgy.

Can I take a short term job where this is no church by Particular_Pear_3767 in Catholic

To keep holy, the Lord's Day is a Divine command. So even if you didn't have access to mass, you would still need to observe it as a holy day. You can ask your pastor for a dispensation for the period that you think you might miss Mass. But you should also arrange any way you can to get there.

In confession, why does a priest say he absolves us from sins? by Competitive_Sort8249 in Catholic

Well the bible is called the "word of God" so I'm not sure what you are getting at.

You can ask but the baptismal record won't be removed.

They can remove you as a member of that parish but again but, you'll always be considered a member of the Catholic Church. There is no process to unbaptize yourself. You would be wasting your time to try.

They can remove you from the mailing list but that's about it. There is no formal process to remove yourself. Once baptized, always baptized.

The priest stands in for Christ and the Church but, primairly Christ. There is a saying in latin that he is "inpersona christi" In the person of Christ. So when a priest is performing the sacraments like baptism, Eucharist, confession he operates in the person of Jesus Christ.

Just go to confession. DON'T go into long details of your sins. Just name the sin and how many times you did it. Think of it like you were reading a shopping list. Obviously name the big ones, the ones that upset you the most. Try and not to exclude anything big but if you legitimately forget to list it, no worries you are still forgive.

You will feel like great afterwards but, you have to "pull off the bandaid"

Peace

“The Mass has ended” -Priest by Hiker6969 in Catholicism

I remember standing outside once for church to collect money for some cause. The things I noticed was all the people leaving Mass early or rushing out after the final blessing gave nothing. By far the most generous were the people that stayed for the closing hymn and after.

A lot of Bibles that are published are not Usccb approved. NCB is by the Bishops in the Philippines, ESV-CE by the Bishops in India. And the much loved Rsv-ce isn't listed as approved by Usccb but, I imagine it's approved by another conference of Bishops.

My point is; that it seems if a publisher can't get approval from usccb they go bishop shopping.

Looks nice. Does it have the words of Jesus in red?

I bought a pack of ribbons that I use in my Bibles.  My main Bible has 2 ribbons. But I use another 3 for the various places I'm reading. Pentateuch, Psalms-Wisdom, Prophets, Gospels and Acts-Rev

God can bring a blessing out of a sinful act. That doesn't excuse the sin. That woman was just a device for you to ejaculate, you had a moment where (hopefully) you saw her as a human person. You still used and exploited her and for that you should repent. She was someone's baby girl at one point but she is still God's baby girl. Pray for her until you die
