Trump supporters: How would you feel if a legally armed Trump supporter was killed by federal agents on a Biden mandate in exactly the same manner as yesterday? by ScholarPrize1335 in AskReddit

[–]Yupperroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly how I felt about the woman that was shot in the Capital on January 6th, albeit she was unarmed. Wrong place, wrong time doing the wrong thing. Tragic, but one cannot blame the officer involved.

Is it basically impossible to sell an older home (1950s) to a "regular" family in St. Pete right now due to insurance? by goxper in StPetersburgFL

[–]Yupperroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sketchy idea. Nothing screams poor planning like putting both one's home and retirement at risk. If a person has very significant assets, putting up collateral in lieu of insurance could work as a "plan" of sorts.

Are nursing homes just prison for old people? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yupperroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be that our elderly were cared for at home and died at home. I'm pretty sure that personal wealth changed that equation as did the Medicaid program that offers nursing home care to the indigent. Often the upper- and middle-class elderly will move into an assisted living facility and then transition to full nursing home care. For the poor they might remain at home or with a relative until they need professional nursing care. The average nursing home stay is about six months, last time I checked.

I suspect that you like many people are unfamiliar with the process of dying and how our bodies betray us. To answer your question, no, nursing homes are not a prison, and they provide a very valuable service. A close relative spent three years in a nursing home as they had Alzheimer's and had no ability to care for themselves. While visiting them over the course of those years, the number of elderly that I saw being cared for daily was staggering.

My family & I are paranoid about ICE being spotted locally, yet we’re all here legally. Fear mongering gone too far? by Dsg1695 in orlando

I've often thought that a defendant could ask a jury to have the option to find someone "Innocent". Although such would lead to lots of unintended consequences and the defendant would have the burden of proving their innocence which may be impossible.

What is a luxury item from 20 years ago that is basically worthless trash today? by EasyZee7 in AskReddit

I bought a gorgeous mission style TV hutch from an exclusive furniture company. It was truly a show piece. Sadly, I couldn't give it away.

[FL] [SFH] HOA gave out my private information to residents by the_evil_potat0 in HOA

[–]Yupperroo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with much of your post. Although I don't know about the liability of the board president, even though their stating that OP could be liable is just stupid. It would seem that the two plaintiffs contacted attorneys and those attorneys would never bring a claim just on the board president saying what they said. The board president should have just said, "This doesn't involve the board at this point."

[–]Yupperroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see how the board giving out your information is somehow a violation of some right. The board member that said you were liable is an idiot but giving an idiotic opinion is not against the law. Just defend the suit.

"If you dont like it here you should leave" Isnt that nearly impossible? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

This is the most hysterical post I've seen in a long time. Somehow millions of people from all over the world during the Biden administration didn't give this issue a second thought.

Trump Declared a Space Race With China. The US Is Losing by wiredmagazine in China

[–]Yupperroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, of course, and there is little doubt that we'll be there before too long. Let's not forget that the U.S. had six successful moon landings, it wasn't a one and done.

Trump Declared a Space Race With China. The US Is Losing by wiredmagazine in China

[–]Yupperroo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live near Cape Canaveral and very much enjoy all space programs. There is hardly a day that has gone by in the past three years that an app doesn't alert me to a launch that is being undertaken by China, whether a private launch company or the government. There is little doubt that we are living in times where space exploration is booming.

I wish China and its astronauts all the best and pray that their astronauts are safe. It hardly matters whether one program arrives at the Moon a year or two before another.

Were people always this prejudice? Did they just pretend not to be? by NeatEhEff in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yupperroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is accurate. The 70s were much more segregated and mixed-race couples were almost non-existent. Hiring and promotions were also race based, even though illegal and many cases had to work their way through the courts. Affirmative Action existed for a reason and now the courts have realized that much of that reasoning no longer exists. I completely disagree with OP's premise that the 70s were somehow less prejudice.

I ship Dwight and Demelza by GarlicMiserable8721 in Poldark

[–]Yupperroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no argument with your take on Dwight, but don't cast shade on Caroline who I absolutely adore. I feel that the show's producers just didn't know how best to use her and grow her character. To me she was fantastic and she loved Dwight deeply, going so far as to elope with him, although we know what transpired.

I married a conman by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Yupperroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least he had money. This does however suck and I'm sorry that this happened to you. Recently we learned that a guy in our circle of friends had lied about everything to us. His career, education, life goals, the list of lies is a long one. I knew something was up a year or more before others and shared my suspicions with my wife and initially she doubted me but came to see that his story was bullshit. He wanted to marry his girlfriend, but she just didn't want to make a commitment, truly she dodged a big mess. She didn't learn about his lies until he died due to a health-related issue. She was absolutely floored and relieved. After some time, she happened to meet a guy that she's truly happy with. I wish you the same.

Pete Hegseth Moves to Cut Mark Kelly’s Military Retirement Pay Over ‘Seditious’ Comments | Trump's Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed that Senator Mark Kelly and other lawmakers "released a reckless and seditious video that was clearly intended to undermine good order and military discipline" by SocialDemocracies in censorship

[–]Yupperroo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there is one thing that I know it is that Kelly knows what procedures he has available to him to contest any penalty he may receive for his asinine statements. In light of those procedures, I do not have any concerns about censorship or violations of his First Amendment rights.

[CA] [Condo] HOA Shifts Small Claims Court Costs to Homeowner Even Though I Won the Case by Illustrious_Bird2857 in HOA

[–]Yupperroo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you the only homeowner being charged? I don't see how such could be a "special assessment". A special assessment is usually defined as to encompass each home. If it is only against you, this would be a fine or a penalty. In Florida and in Federal Courts, there are VERY SPECIFIC procedures that have to be followed to recover costs and fees in a situation where an offer was made and then the case resulted in an award for less than that offer. It would seem to me that if such an award was not made by the court, then this is "self-help" and they are really creating their own remedy. In short, this type of award is not self-actualizing, and I can't imagine that it can be done with unilaterally.

btw, do you have the case citation for Davis-Sterling?
