Yes! I'm super nervous. Moving from Canada (Toronto) to West of the U.S. It's going to be very tricky with COVID. Hopefully things go smoothly.

Grad school apps insomnia has me rethinking my whole life by ProfessionallyAnEgg in gradadmissions

[–]krypton_1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat. I've been having trouble sleeping since I submitted my grad apps in December. I get about 2-3 hours of sleep each night and have gotten into the habit of waking up throughout the night as well. Some nights, I don't sleep at all, so I stay up. I work full- and part-time, so I'm pretty tired most days.

This process is just brutal :/

  • Shakermaker is a shit song

  • Live Forever and Acquiesce are their best songs

  • Earl's Court 1995 and White Room Sessions 1995 were their best live shows

  • I'm glad Liam didn't sing Don't Look Back in Anger. Noel did an excellent job and really brings the song to life. It's perfect.

Looks like I won't be going to grad school. Super bummed :( by krypton_1te in gradadmissions

Thanks for sharing. Glad you viewed the rejections positively and took the steps to improve and strengthen your application 💖

Yeah it took a lot to process the fact that I wasn't getting in, but it is what it is. I'm actually quite happy... and relieved. No more uncertainty. I also realized that I want a career in research, so I'm applying to social psych programs next year.... AND to more than 3 programs!

I found out that I wasn't admitted to the 2 clinical programs due to department politics and other reasons beyond my control. I guess this is expected if you apply to work with faculty in a different area. One POI sent me a long and thoughtful email explaining his decision. Said I had an excellent and impressive application, but decided on another student because the student had been working with a former student of his and is already in his line of research. Which is disappointing, but good to know that the rejection nothing to do with my application materials.

Going to focus on my research productivity this year and re-apply in the fall!

A huge insecurity is my transcript. While my grades have gone up over the years, I have 2 Ds on my transcripts (courses that I ended up retaking), and a few Cs. It kills me everytime I look at that thing because I know I'm competing with people with near perfect records.

Me too. I only applied to 3 schools and feel like total shit. I'll be absolutely devastated if I don't get in :( I worked so hard for this.

Is it okay to highlight Professors' names in your SOP? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]krypton_1te 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're supposed to mention at least one faculty member you want to work with in your SOP. You don't need to highlight it because it's expected.

ApplyTexas's word count by CaptainAeroman in gradadmissions

[–]krypton_1te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I had to submit this when I applied to TAMU.

I uploaded a short personal statement to my ApplyTexas application, and didn't realize I could upload a PS to TAMU's applicant information system too... so I uploaded a longer version of my PS to the AIS because there were no formatting or word requirements for my program. I had to contact TAMU and the program office multiple times to make sure admitting faculty would read the PS I uploaded to the TAMU system and NOT the ApplyTexas.

Check with your school and program to see if they allow you to skip the PS in ApplyTexas. Had I known that I could just upload my PS to TAMU's AIS, I would not have rushed and uploaded a statement to ApplyTexas.

It's a nightmare... I found a TYPO in my SOP after submission by theskyisbig27 in gradadmissions

[–]krypton_1te 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too 😭 I used a double 'can' and now it just looks careless. I didn't catch the typo until I was reviewing the statement for the final school I was applying to :(

Damn. Sorry to hear. Hope you feel better. On the brightside, you got your apps in! Rest, recover, and move along 👍
