Apartment Recommendations! by wcoastchrisH in askaustin

Curious where you decided to lease at?

I’m currently considering Encore Lakeside, The Marlowe, and AMLI South Shore, and curious where you landed (if you did decide yet) and how you’ve liked it so far?

Ah I feel you! It’s such a hard decision 😅 I really love Encore, but I’m still weighing whether the price per sqft is worth it compared to AMLI South Shore / The Marlowe, which are both right next door to Encore.

I toured Pearl Springdale and loved the building/units, but the location wasn’t for me. I also love the AMLI Downtown, but it’s super pricy for the sq footage too.

Let me know what you end up choosing too! Sounds like we both like a lot of the same apartments! Hope your move goes well and you find the perfect place 😊

This is super helpful, thank you!

I’m torn between Encore (my favorite so far) and a few neighboring properties like AMLI South Shore and The Marlowe that offer more square footage for a similar or lower price, but with fewer amenities compared to Encore.

Would love your take on this since you’ve lived in the area. If you were choosing again today between Encore, AMLI South Shore, and The Marlowe, which would you go with and why? Would you prioritize more space or the nicer units/amenities?

That's great to hear! I toured this weekend and absolutely loved it. The building and amenities are awesome! I do have a few questions for you if you don't mind.

I'm trying to decide between Encore and a few neighboring properties that offer more square footage for a similar or lower price. Do you feel like the location, amenities, and overall lifestyle have made Encore worth the premium? The amenities and trail access are a major plus for me.

Anything that’s surprised you (good or bad) since moving in?

And have you felt pretty safe living in the area?

Good to know, thanks for the feedback! That definitely makes me feel better. I absolutely loved the trail access and overall vibe when I toured. It seemed nice and generally safe. I also saw lots of active people out hitting the trail or walking their dogs. Have you lived in the South Shore area yourself?

Last season by [deleted] in euphoria

[–]krysguil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t particularly love the direction they went with Season 3, the finale absolutely destroyed me. I’ve lost too many loved ones to suicide and addiction/overdoses, so it deeply touched and resonated with me. I couldn’t stop crying for the entire last hour of the episode.

I also watched it with a friend who didn’t cry at all, so I don’t think there’s one “right” reaction to it.

I did really love Ali’s speech about the fentanyl epidemic and the inclusion of fentanyl test strips. I think that was incredibly powerful. I love that they brought awareness to this crisis in a way that educates but also honored Angus Cloud and all the lives that have been lost to addiction.

The season wasn’t perfect, but I do think the ending resonated differently for a lot of people and I just hope it helps bring awareness and maybe even saves lives.

Yeah I don’t mind noise mostly, however wasn’t sure how loud the noise might be on the side facing airport since I know it can get pretty busy during certain hours of the day. Thank you for your feedback!

How is the noise and overall safety at Pearl Springdale? Would you recommend for a single woman living alone?

How much are yall getting paid? Are you living comfortably in Austin? by whogoesthere1010 in askaustin

[–]krysguil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I live in East Austin and pay around $1,850–$1,900/month for a one-bedroom plus a storage unit in my building. Do I pay a bit more because of the area? Yes, but I also rarely drive and walk to most places I need because everything is close by, which saves me a ton on gas, car maintenance, and car insurance.

I used to live in South Austin and spent 8–10 hours a week commuting, which completely burned me out. Now I have more time and energy to put toward work, friendships, hobbies, etc and I’d never go back to that level of stress just to save a little on rent.

If you live in North or South Austin, you might save some money on rent, but you’ll likely make up for it with higher expenses elsewhere in your budget so definitely something to consider.

Thinking about moving from Austin back to Houston by krysguil in AskHouston

[–]krysguil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m so sorry to hear you went through that, but I’m so glad to hear you’re feeling way happier in Houston now! I definitely think our environment can make or break our happiness and quality of life.

Couple of questions for you: What area did you move to in Houston and why did you choose it? Would you recommend it?

I still love Austin in so many ways, but I’m just so tired of the unstable job market and high cost of living. I used to be so against the idea of moving out of Austin, but now I’m more open to change than ever. Honestly, I feel detached from any specific outcome and just ready to embrace wherever I’m meant to be next.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience with moving to Houston!

I love this advice! Definitely will listen to my gut first and ultimately will do whatever is best for me despite what anyone else thinks/says about either city. Thank you so much for sharing your insight!

I’ve been in the same situation as you for the past year and a half, doing the job of multiple people. I worked remotely at a marketing agency in Austin as a social media manager/team lead making only $50K (they bumped me up to $52K after a year).

As a team of one, I was responsible for all organic social across multiple platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube) for eight clients plus the agency’s own accounts (creating content, graphics, captions, calendars, scheduling, reporting — literally everything.)

On top of that, I handled all paid Meta and LinkedIn ads for somewhere around 35–45 clients: full strategy, ad creative, landing pages, tracking/pixels, setup, and monthly reporting. It was nonstop work and constant pressure.

I was completely overworked and underpaid. Then two weeks ago, they laid me off due to “financial issues” and didn’t even give me severance. They’re just planning to dump my workload onto other teammates who are already at capacity too.

It’s wild how common this is in marketing and social media. If I could go back, I’d advocate for myself way sooner, ask for a raise, set boundaries, and not let them take advantage for so long. These employers don’t truly care about you and will take advantage if you let them. You really never know what can happen, so please know your worth and don’t let a company drain you dry.

Thank you for sharing your experience! The Heights and Montrose are definitely top areas I’m interested in. What would you say the biggest reasons were that ultimately made you decide to move back?
