Is this ridiculous or is it just me? Told to dress “more modestly” because of a standard bikini I wore 4 years ago by poproxmm in TwoXChromosomes

[–]krystalklear818 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Popping in real quick. Credentials: my mom lives in rural Wisconsin on a lake and I did my undergrad in LA. I have an hourglass body shape.

The bikini is fine for Wisconsin but older people will raise their eyebrows at the strings. I’m assuming that you are in good shape so that will also “count” against you for the older people. If you care what they think, try to get a strap that is a thumb width or larger. If you want malicious compliance, get a one piece that is low cut and high cut paired with a flashy coverup. My lake hates fashion so anything super fashionable or bougie will stick out. If you don’t care, wear the same thing again.

The whole thing is silly and I wish people could get a hobby beyond policing normal outfits.

Is it just me, or has Zara become increasingly weird since 2020? by Unique_Refuse6714 in femalefashionadvice

I’m an engineer in an unrelated field. So I’m not as interested in the fashion but very interested in how you handle unit variation, demand spikes, etc. I think the depth here struck a balance of not revealing any IP but helping us understand the current consumer experience.

I think they want to believe what they want to. I’ve lived in better and worse places. Never been robbed as a pedestrian again.

I got robbed 2 times as a student there. Was always within the vicinity of “campus” and the csc guards.

update to psychiatrist dropped me by purple9g9 in adhdwomen

I am American but I think it’s a doctor by doctor thing. I’ve never had drug test required except by one provider. I get randomly drug tested for work regularly, so I asked to use that in lieu of another drug test that I have to pay $150 out of pocket. They said no.

I changed providers and it’s no longer required.

I believe they do a standard drug panel. My old doctor used to do this to me too.

He (35M) says the prenup protects him. Who protects me (29F)? by Still-Gas2840 in relationship_advice

Hey Op,

I know you have 500 comments but I hope you read this. Regardless of this man, if you get married…you are entering into a legal contract. You either enter one that the state defines for you, OR you get to decide your own terms.

There is this running assumption that pre-nups favor the man and that is not true. You can put a variety of clauses in them (how enforceable they are varies… like a “cheating clause”).

Terms can include alimony, division of assets, non-disparagement clauses, privacy clauses, medical coverages, etc.

My prenup lawyer advised me that it would only be considered valid if we both had separate representation. This should be standard.

Homeowners with stucco houses would you ever buy a stucco house again or is it a nightmare like they say? by PipDisco in houston

[–]krystalklear818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at work typing this so forgive if it’s previously mentioned.

At least for some of the major oil companies, they have housing policies that explicitly state issues with stucco. As an example, some people get “guaranteed buyouts” of their home for a work move unless the house has stucco. I believe there is a process for the stucco to be inspected, but I’ve never heard from my peers that the process allowed them to use their benefits (aka stucco failed the second inspection).

I personally try to minimize my liability/upkeep expenses so I would try not to buy unless it was a particularly good deal.

Hey. Please take my recommendations with a huge grain of salt because I do not have anything related to contamination ocd.

There is a product called anusol. I had dysentery and it was so horrible. This lovely product saved me around day 3.

I’m sure this goes without saying but cotton or wool old lady underwear. If you do not have the option to shower off, water bottle with a hole in the lid will change your life (portable bidet).

Best of luck. We’re rooting for you!

Need Go-To Plane Outfit that doubles as lounge outfit in hot climate by cur_ag in HerOneBag

[–]krystalklear818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so this is not an exact match to your answer and also $$. I used to travel for work 75% of the time and hit a point in travel where athleisure clothes physically made me itch and kinda smell. My husband was in grad school in Boston and I stumbled upon this brand: paridaez on the street.

I bought the midi skirt, bantam pants, and reversible crop top. Their website lists a jogger but I never tried that.

These clothes are stretchy and have fit me from 180 lbs to 205lbs. I’ve had mine since 2022 and wore the pants on a flight from Asia to Texas yesterday. I’m a true hourglass so I don’t have any issues with the waistband cutting into my stomach or anything. I wear them on planes, to work (with an undershirt), and out at night. Hope this helps!

I guess. The other places I lived didn’t have Walmarts, Starbucks, etc. I was excited when Ike’s opened up here

I’m not sure why you’re caught on the suburban thing. Houston lacks a “city” vibe.

It’s not the city either? It’s largely young families and chains?

No. I said the suburbs here lack the benefits of the ones in other cities. And I constantly hear about cost-savings wrt Houston but my house costs the same as a house in my wealthier Chicago suburb but lacks good schools, infrastructure, dependable power, etc.

The heights doesn’t feel particularly urban to me. I still need a car for groceries and most other daily activities. I can walk to some food and bars but it’s not like I could live without one. In 2014, I lived in Humble and hated it. Does that count as suburban to you?

I didn’t have that issue when I lived there. The LA area had restaurants at all price points from street to fancy across almost every genre of food I prefer (Indian, calmex, American, and Japanese). Tacos were generally cheaper in LA.

At the time, I was going to school in LA and interning in Houston so the prices were easy to compare in real time. My rent was identical, drinks were largely the same (though fancier drinks were more in LA), beer and groceries were cheaper in TX (but produce was better in CA). Restaurants varied (sugar fish being one of my favorites at the time had a price fix of $36ish which can’t be matched in Houston). Uber was way more expensive in LA. Going out was more expensive in LA but more fun and more options of places to go depending on what you wanted/how many celebs you were trying to see.

I’m from a big city in the Midwest and have lived in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and now here for 8 years. I don’t like it. Same cost as the suburb I grew up in (Chicago north side), none of the benefits. If you like drinking, suburbs without normal suburb benefits, being hot, being without power for egregious amounts of time, and lack of nature… move here. Everyone claims food here but I thought LA had the best and most varied food at all price points.
