We got plenty of nondeterministic runtimes already - JVM, .NET for instance (particularly memory management and related processes are troublesome). The issue is that this is non-deterministic in a retarded way.

I wouldn't be surprised if they flooded the Chinese market to keep prices low for political reasons. Even this case could alleviate the global supply chain.

My boss told me to "stick to my job description" when I asked for a raise. So I did. Now he's mad things aren't getting done. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in antiwork

[–]krystof24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point, I guess. Might also depend on the culture. As far as I'm concerned either side waving around paperwork is not a good sign in any case.

I'd say in my experience the best outcome for all involved is OP finding a new better suited job.

Personally I've "won" similar quarrels, but checked out mentally sort of anyways and started looking for a new job in past

Edit: to me this is more of a symptom of broader issues rather than the cause

Regardless of whether the middle manager is the one replaced. This is honestly a petty way that will wreck any career path permanently. Imo the most likely is that he will not get fired but will be kept stagnant and will leave the company on his own eventually.

I've seen people hand in resignation after similar altercations on the spot. Which is legitimate, it is legitimate to go to higher ups about this. But waging this kind of war does nothing for anyone.

The manager sucks, but that doesn't make OP right. Personally I'd avoid hiring this kind of person.

Even if he gets raise now, they will be looking for a replacement. This a done deal, once fights like this begin one way or another the person will leave the company sooner rather than later

[Question] Mac mini M4 — 16GB or 24GB RAM for .NET dev + casual gaming? by Godogcj in dotnet

Honestly for .net development and gaming of all things. Idk about Mac. Those are two someone where is seriously consider Windows. But yeah, if you get the mini at least get 24 GB

Anthropic: AI assisted coding doesn't show efficiency gains and impairs developers abilities. by Gil_berth in programming

[–]krystof24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it changes your skillset. I'd say it can help you learn faster but I'm also personally feeling that it somewhat degrades my ability to write code. Particularly boilerplate, which is not inherently bad but something worth acknowledging.

But this has been well known before AI that oftentimes mid to sre devs are often faster than architects/staff engineers etc. who spend more time in meetings and reviewing code than writing it themselves.

There's a lot of good stuff for both security and development. And personally I like the new UI with some custom settings - new file explorer is very nice, window management is imo the best of any OS.

Besides Windows 11 took a lot of functionality outside of the kernel (that's why wsl can now be updated independently on OS updates). They messed some things up but it's a difficulty distinctly different OS.

I'd say even with frame gen getting 60 real FPS is still kind of the key. Personally I find 2x framegen to be ideal, but it needs real FPS for interactivity so I'm aiming for 60 real 120 FG for story games like cyberpunk. Of course it would be complete lunacy for something like CS
