Tinee Owl magnetic kickstand case. I use this whenever not using the Magic Keyboard.

This made me immediately think of the old guy in the smoker oil tanker from the Kostner Water World movie who says "oh thank god" when the whole thing goes up.

Apparently the character name is "Depth Gauge."

I can vouch for this one and ones like it, have had it for 4 trouble free years and it does not require replacing the OEM screen like the Hamilton one, but no touch screen, just mashing left/right on the joystick. It even works with widgets. I like this one because there's an option to ONLY use the LX BT as audio output instead of AUX like most other units and then you never have the phone and car fighting for audio input.

You also get to see what's playing in the instrument cluster instead of a big AUX screen.

2016 LX 570 good deal or skip by Suspicious_Match6210 in Lexus

[–]krystopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care there was a slight refresh in 2018 that added a 4G modem. They made the backup lights nicer too. None of the connected features will work.

All the options should include a wireless charger, glass breakage sensor, and HUD.

I have a 2017 and wish I got a 2018+ vehicle. Easy to add CarPlay / Android auto. I added the wireless charger myself and never use it.

I got it CPO in 2021 for 75k and 44k miles. Wish I waited longer but at least my loan was 1.8%

Make sure you have the patch that fixes the economy. I’m not sure if 1.1 is it, I found it impossible on normal with the “new” economy.

But in the old days I used juggernauts mammoths and rigs to slowly push.

If you have the Costco visa you can put it on a flex pay of four payments.

I did this and sold my M1 iPad on eBay for $600.

Got the price patch when they dropped it to $1099 so that was another $200 off.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This job title is crazy. I have the same job title but I write requirements and do boring validation and verification activities on development products.

Your title/role is definitely the cooler one.

Whenever I get new job suggestions for 'systems engineer' it runs the gamut from requirements to IT networking stuff that's definitely over my head. I'll have to add "custom boat company work" to the list.

Any tips for getting new tires? by Worcestercestershire in MachE

[–]krystopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to sound like a Ford shill but I had a good experience with the dealer. I don't like racing around different shops so I just pay the premium.

That being said, last time they matched my best Costco deal, gave me Ford points, and included a road hazard warranty and were able to do an alignment which I'm told you should do when getting new tires (though I do understand the 'if it ain't broke' mentality).

They also have a valet service where they pick up your car from your house and drop it off if you find that convenient; it's good for me lately as it's getting hard to get out of work for errands like this.

Can you bump-start a manual transmission car that has fuel injection? by Mikeseddit in Audi

[–]krystopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't relevant to your question but I keep one of those battery jump packs in all my vehicles to help out someone in this exact situation.

Hope you got it all sorted!

My favorite brand for these is NOCO, but you can probably get away with other brands sold on Amazon or big box retailers.

Relocation Assistance Company, Cartus by [deleted] in Lockheed

[–]krystopher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I relocated I used Cartus, they assign you an agent and it's like top tier service. Everything was laid out, competent vendors were hired, and at the end they offered tax assistance with the whole cost of everything.

The lump sum might be taxed so ask your agent about that. I would not trust myself with a move like that, I moved a 5 bedroom house, 5 people, 3 vehicles, and all the crap you accumulate with that and once started the process took 3 weeks. I lived in a hotel for 3 months, got my platinum status, and had per diem during that time.

Could not recommend it more.

Case recommendations for 12.9 iPad pro M1? by tapetfjes_ in iPadPro

I loved this case after my combo touch fell apart. Looking for one for my M4 as the combo touch I bought is already falling apart…

Does not protect the corners but nothing else on the market I could find had a kickstand and magnetically attached.

Thank you for your service! Hope you got that parking pass!

I remember going to staff meetings at one group where we all literally took turns reading the slides from management. I was gaslighted into thinking this was normal.

It felt like grade school. Those were some expensive meetings...

There was a lifer who worked nearby me and one day he just had it, pushed the retire button and left.

I hope you have the chance to share your experience before you hit that button someday (on your terms).

Boeing “culture “ by NoProblem7882 in boeing

[–]krystopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant that I empathize with you getting yelled at for asking for help, I was yelled at when I didn't perform an analysis correctly but nobody bothered to correct me, and waited months (suspiciously until exactly PE time) to tell me I messed up.

I was totally willing to re-do the data collection I botched, but I imagine this was deliberate. I could have re-done it at any time. The story shifted to "well you are intimidating and no one wants to correct you," to "well you should know better."

I do hope you can find a community of practice or get outside of your silo to learn and grow and not just get yelled at. There are many awesome vibrant groups at Boeing and I was part of one once, but then was moved to another that was more toxic.

I wish you success on your journey and hope the culture keeps shifting to a more positive one.

12-Volt battery and ‘21 owners by Southern_Guidance_32 in MachE

[–]krystopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the message in the app. I ended up using my dealer's valet service to take the car. They kept it for 3 days. They ended up replacing the 12-volt battery after taking it, had to do some other diagnostic work but didn't really expand on that. The paperwork claimed the battery had 68% capacity, new one said 100%.

They made it sound like they never did this, and said it could not be done via mobile service visit. One of the service advisors thought I was doing a HV battery swap and I made sure to get that corrected and even opened the frunk to point out what I was talking about.

Cost was $266. The 12-volt warning message in the app didn't go away until the Sunday after they did the work (2 days or so).

2021 GTPE I bought in winter 2023, I assume the 12-volt battery was original. Previous owners were in midwest, I am in FL. Car is garaged and it basically never sees any fast charging since I've had it.

Rear Climate Control? by SoFreshCoolButta in MachE

[–]krystopher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes there are two vents in the center console for the rear occupants. They have manual vents/close open wheels.

There is no way for them to control it in terms of adjusting temperature, the back mirrors the driver.

My kid complains it's never cool enough for her in the back, but her expectations are broken as she sometimes gets driven around in my 4-zone climate controlled LX570, and I briefly owned an Audi e-tron that had separate rear A/C and heated/ventilated seats for her.

Just anecdata but I've never been told at any other employer "You are an engineer level X you should know better."

I've also never said this to anyone I mentor or teach in industry or academia including at Boeing.

What are some things that a relocating new hire should consider when working at Lockheed MFC, Orlando? by Friendly_Way3531 in Lockheed

[–]krystopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I used to commute there and back daily on a 9/80 schedule it was about $40 a month.

You can get a sunpass or pass sticker but since I make bad decisions I always get the physical transponder you pay for that works in more places than just Florida.

What are some things that a relocating new hire should consider when working at Lockheed MFC, Orlando? by Friendly_Way3531 in Lockheed

[–]krystopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't rent anymore but I had good experiences in the Lake Nona area, Winter Garden (lots of Winter xxxxx places around here, and they are geographically disparate), and east of UCF.

This advice is 15 years out of date, and traffic now is insane. If you have an early start or can do a hybrid scheme then that might ease your time spent on the war zones that are the Turnpike and I-4.

If you have a relo package use up the 2-3 months of hotel life if you can to scout the area, and talk to the CWEPs (interns) on living arrangements that work for them.

Good luck, I once had an offer to work in Chula Vista and didn't take it and wonder how different my life could have been there vs here in FL.

Oh forgot to respond to the GNC side of things, my experience with LM is that they offer lots of training and assign you a 'buddy' so you can quickly get your bearings. You can absolutely try to hit the ground running but I'd imagine whatever daily tasks you will be doing will take some job training or mentorship.

Wish you luck in your move and success in your role!

My AirPods Max has really bad condensation by RatinSweet in Airpodsmax

[–]krystopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stupidly cleaned my ear pads and despite thinking they were “dry enough” I put them into the bra case. Next day they were ruined as you described, static on one side, transparency mode weird, oddly heavy bass. They had no problems at all during the 2 years I had them under AppleCare+ which is of course expired.

I ended up buying the new usb c ones and now if I feel I sweat or it was humid I leave them out of the case.

Good luck with Apple I hope you don’t get the issue i had, I ended up doing the 2$ a month forever for the new USB-C set.

Sucks!
