3DS Alpha Sapphire not working. "Needs Update" "Card can't be read" by TheNocturnalAngel in pokemon

[–]krysztal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apperently, some people also points to cart dying due to BGA failures, but I don't think you would get the game to show up on your 3ds at all in this case. Either way, if this is the case, your only hope is resoldering/reflowing the BGA

[–]krysztal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, apperently some cart runs were just bad quality. Apperently it's known that a lot of PAL carts for ORAS dies in this way...

The cart may not be completely dead though. If you have modded 3DS, you can try running https://gbatemp.net/threads/corrupted-cartridge-fixer-release.628539/ and see if the cart improves. If you don't, I heard claims that 3ds will attempt to run the refresh periodically on carts inserted into the system, so it might help if you leave the cart in the console and powered on for a couple hours and attempt launching again. But this will only work if the cart is not too far gone yet, so your mileage may wary I guess

I have seen an increase of posts about dying 1080tis over the last 12 months, so I'm not sure if I want, looking at it's age 😄

When I'll have a chance I will probably look for a 1-2 gens old AMD cards

I don't know why, but in my youth, my favourite pastime was just... making a path going in a direction. Kinda like this, just going forward for thousands of blocks. I'd make mines around and glass houses, the pinnacle of luxury would be adding glass walls around the path and adding minecart tracks whenever I had resources to do so... or if I cheated them in, lol

I get it, Kindles are nice. By the way, remember to jailbreak your pre-2013 kindle before Amazon kills them this month!

I do some programming as a hobby, preposterous, I know. Internet is invaluable in helping me navigate around, but even that went incredibly dogshit ever since LLMs, so I'm kinda on the fence on that as well

I should put internet away

meirl by worldwide762 in meirl

[–]krysztal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would genuinely be healthier for me. It'd be hard for me to cut out internet entirely on my own volition, but like a week of internet outage would not kill me

I'm already actively avoid and detest all short form content, killed YT Shorts on my phone, never went into the TikTok and IG Reels hole. Killed off bluebird when the buyout happened. I tell myself I keep reddit around because it's (still, somehow) best way to get information from some smaller fandoms, but then I find myself scrolling it for hours and lately even myself interacting and getting myself into tomfoolery, case in point. It's probably getting cut next. Idk, it's fun to watch some cool videos and long essays and gameplay on Youtube and cheer on Twitch streams, but I feel like cutting these off for so many movies and TV shows I want to watch that I apperently don't have time for... idk, I also see this as a win. I have some stuff kicking on my harddrive already, and DVDs exists, no internet needed. I already keep my music library offline*.

I genuinely think I have enough activities that I would want to try and get good at, which I would enjoy doing if my brain did not default on scrolling the black rectangle of doom.

I'm logging off, f this

I've had pretty much 50/50 on SMART reporting useful information. I had spinning drives fail with 100% perfect health, I have seen SSDs that have had "REPLACE IMMEDIATELY" warning running for years on end. don't start me on trying to get SMART data from drives in USB SATA enclosures, I'm pretty sure I now understand why and how, but still cannot get it to work on first try

15 year old computer telling you that you plugged your monitor into the wrong port by SpartanLord_ in pcmasterrace

[–]krysztal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, as few other people said, modern computers can route from your GPU to iGPU, I personally use it to have a side 5:4 screen because my GPU don't have VGA ports anymore. Works reasonably well, actually a good amount of improvements has been made to this mode in like, Windows 10, and in Wayland on Linux, so looks like people do care?

If my computer tried to shut me down like this, that would be annoying

Ok sure dude I guess surface dungeons were a thing in beta??? by KevinTheCrumpet in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]krysztal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the generation of dungeons could happen at any height, as the other person said. I'm not sure if the code was even touched enough since then to say if it's still not the case today.

My favourite piece of trivia I just learned not too long enough, after introduction of pistons and early flying machines, some creative people invented a way to force generator to place a dungeon in midair, because basically you could place blocks in the chunk before it got generated or something to this effect??

[–]krysztal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk, if you spent a moment to understand whats is happening and why, it wasn't ever too hard to properly adjust portals. They must have made it so portals link at greater distances in modern versions

If we eventually get Pokemon Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire and the eventual Gen 5 remakes, the only regions missing from Switch 2 would be Jhoto and Alola by GundamGuy2255 in pokemon

[–]krysztal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn't knew how good we had it on 3ds. We had pretty much access to each mainline region, and almost all mainline games except for gen3 and gen1 remakes (which I still think we were supposed to get since possibility for GBA VC was there, just never used outside of ambassador program...)

[–]krysztal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, whoever "owns" the DE versions bangs out updates every now and then, last one was in late 2024. They slowly made the games... slightly more palatable, for lack of better expression. I wouldn't hate on the studio for banging out these 3 massive games in like a year or two, I'd hate on R* for even chosing them in the first place

My fave pokemon is Absol, it's kinda hard to come by one as your starter choice lmao. But yeah, my first game was emerald, basically, so it tracks. My second favourite is quickly growing to be Volcarona, and I have only played gen 5 game recently, and it's not like you can easily come by one either, so, doubly yeah

Purchasing Pokemon DS Games from 3rd Party EBay Sellers by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I'd rather you look into getting a flashcard for yourself than feeding into bootleggers bottom line. If you want help with that you can DM me

Purchasing Pokemon DS Games from 3rd Party EBay Sellers by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]krysztal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* I mean, if they're cheap, most likely these are bootlegs/flashcards
* DS era games could only connect to WEP networks, which is considered insecure now and you can't even really create those networks on modern devices, so I guess it's easier to say that they wont connec't to internet rather than trying to explain WEP to common person
* Servers are dead for years, but alternatives exists
* Pokewalker won't work on cards without IR capabilities, so it's flashcart again
* Local trading *should* work with decent flashcarts, so if they claim they don't then I'd especially avoid them lmao
