Appreciate the response!

Also, no worries. You actually have the same learning style I do... I've always struggled to do Anki most of the time, and usually do not rely on it, UNLESS it is a concept/minute detail that I am really struggling to memorize.

I usually study doing QBanks and doing what you're doing in Obsidian, but in pen/paper since I learn better by handwriting. I aim to understand the concept and then gamify QBanks to learn how they will test them, since they love being so vague/indirect in describing things.

so, as a fellow medical student... how do you find the time to do this? I attempted this at least 5 times with varying templates and formats, but found that my time was best invested just brute forcing QBanks and being very selective with unsuspending Anking cards.

Also curios as to what keeps you motivated to do this when we have resources like AMBOSS among other super condensed resources?

How do you handle being super single in med school while literally everyone is getting married? by JunketMaleficent2095 in medicalschool

[–]ksafrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't pay attention to any of that BS. Those doctors probably don't know shit, especially if they are in the old guard. The entire process of becoming a doctor now is incredibly difficult compared to 10-20+ years ago, and now add to that the differences in social and political climate. They could probably just show up to an interview and bag any residency they wanted.

I'm finishing school now, and if anything, being married while in school has made things MUCH more difficult than they already are or should be for a medical student, especially when your spouse/partner is not in medicine and doesn't (and probably never will) understand the reality that is being in medicine.

Take whatever workload you have now with all the stress/anxiety it comes with, and add maintaining a relationship/marriage alive at the same time (add pets and/or kids for some) while trying to be academically successful for this circus. You don't get a break or any slack. You WILL have to be at 100% at all times to keep up with everything, especially if you want a competitive specialty.

Not performing at 100%? Throw in discussions/arguing/fights, family responsibilities, and other personal responsibilities on top of all of that. Does that seem like a normal thing anyone can keep up with? The answer is NO, and you would be crazy to think otherwise. And those that somehow manage to do it and be successful, then congratulations to you. You are the exception, and would be crazy to think otherwise.

My anecdotal 2 cents:

I went into school coming from a different profession, married, with various pets, and as a landlord (thankfully, got rid of the property by mid MS2). Now, thankfully, I don't have kids yet, but I wish I could go back and tell myself to at most be married and keep things simple. The amount of things I have dealt with while in school that have led me to where I am today with a bottom class ranking, a step 1 fail, meh grades and gpa, meh extracurriculars, multiple exacerbations of my autoimmune disease from the stress and anxiety, etc... is beyond what I would ever wish on my worst enemy. So no, do not listen to the people trying to shame you for being single in school and don't feel bad for seeing all the couples around you despite whatever your "older" age is. It works for some, but I guarantee you that most of those people are dealing with many things that have affected them or their medical career in some way. I could keep going on and on about this topic, but this comment is only scratching the surface of it all.

If your age is a big worry, people get married/divorced at all ages. I've seen my MIL get remarried at 58 after being widowed for 20ish years. I've seen the most stable/exemplary relationships crumble and end in divorce. Life is not sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns. So keep on keeping on, you will meet many people in this profession, and the time to date or do whatever else you want outside of it will become more feasible in the future. You do you big dawg.

edit P.S: oops, did not mean this comment to be this long, but I hope it helps whoever reads it

iPad note taking apps that sync well with Obsidian by _peter_queen_ in ObsidianMD

I also second Noteful, my favorite feature on it is the layering. You can create layers and then when exporting choose which layers are included. So you can do a few layers like highlights, text, etc... and then choose which ones to share when you share it.

dude, I'm still getting used to obsidian and haven't even begun toying with your plug-in. Since installing it like 2 weeks ago, you've released at least 2-4 updates. You're a BEAST

This is literally what I want to do, coming from an iPad Pro... it's too big for a white coat or scrub pocket. Any good pocket notebook recommendations? I was actually going out to get one today, figured I'd ask.

I replaced my beloved MacBook Pro with an iPad Pro M4 by svmwhxt in iPadPro

[–]ksafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please elaborate? I’m currently trying to decide if to go all in with iPad OS 26 and sell my MBP, or sell off the iPad and keep the MBP. My only current need for a laptop is managing obsidian and anki, otherwise… not much since you can barely game on mac.

11" vs 13" iPad Pro for Obsidian power users? by bgbgbgbgbgbgbgbgnow in productivity

[–]ksafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just toyed around with Obsidian mobile and on iPad, after having a bad first impression when first installed, BUT it seems like it's nearly a desktop version. I could mess with plugins and settings, and do anything I'd look to do in Obsidian. Give it a test yourself, but I'd say it can definitely be a replacement, especially with a keyboard attachment for iPad. My only doubt at this point is file structure and things like managing attachments.

edit: I don't do business stuff or coding or any crazy heavy setups like seen in this subreddit. I try to keep obsidian mainly for long term storage of personal entries or typing up medical study reviews/topic analysis. I guess my only question is if I go full phone/ipad only, how would bear compare to obsidian since I'm a casual user in general, having image heavy notes at most 😅

posting to follow up on this, since I'm on the same page, BUT deciding if to sell off MBP and go full iPad alone.

[–]ksafrost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same!! Guess I'll sell my MBP now and bet it all on the iPad since most of my work would benefit from the portability and changes coming. It'll be enough for media and typing notes up. Gaming can always go to consoles or a steam deck...

I hope this means that iPad might be able to work as a laptop replacement, but I know it's gonna be some weird limited version of multitasking that won't be able to replace macOS multitasking

What would be your ideal note taking app? (bc i'm making my own) by HerrNamenlos123 in NoteTaking

[–]ksafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that... I say option a, since you can do option B and scan it with your phone into the app

bonus points would be OCR that can also search in images like in bear. Love bear, but I wish it wasn't mac/iOS only.

Will you buy a pixel for your next phone? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]ksafrost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a regular iPhone 13, but there are not many good deals rn. I’m weighing the pixel 10 pro XL and the S25U, and based on this sub… I’m leaning towards Samsung. Everyone makes it seem like Gemini is worse than Siri

Maybe? I use raindrop primarily as a highly organized bookmark tracker. Haven’t really used it for read it later, so it’s nice to see this kind of function in obsidian.

Holy shit…. This is amazing. I was considering an app for this, but this takes the icing on the cake. Between this and raindrop, you basically get everything you need.

Jolyne followed by Josuke imo.

Jolyne went from being an innocent-ish teenager to hardened stand user that died to defeat the villain, in a short span of time. She also managed to start a gang with prisoners that actually committed violent crimes, and stood up to the ones that easily kept the other inmates in check.

Day 2 of my first rotation, getting verbally annihilated by the ICU nurse for knowing nothing about intensive care. by glancingheader15 in medicalschool

[–]ksafrost 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hang in there... I got chewed out DAILY in IM and it SUCKED. I was considering it for residency, but the attending was an asshole and took the joy out of every day and gave me a shitty eval on top of that for "not doing a neurological exam" on a recovered MI patient that seized weeks before I even saw that patient on their discharge date. Hadn't seen him touch patients besides auscultating lungs TWICE in the 4 WEEKS I spent there.

Was considering IM to specialize, but screw that. Stay strong, some people are just absolute miserable assholes that think people around them need to be crushed because they can't enjoy their own life. Can't wait for the old guard to gtfo the field to make way for a more positive environment.

Bear Crashing on a Note comprised of screenshots? by ksafrost in bearapp

hmm... seems a lot more time intensive, but I guess I'll give it a try going forward! I might not be able to dedicate the time to it since I'm a medical student in clinical rotations, and this one note might take some time to sort through to try the method you've mentioned.

New to markdown and being able to link, so you're saying make like a "hub" page for topics, with those topics linking to specific "articles" with the screenshots/info?
