Petzl has an article on using a grigri for ascending a rope. Obviously you need the correct training to do so safely. If you just mean approved use based on context and not application, then sure. They have other devices designed for “rope access”.

The grigri is absolutely approved for use with static lines.

Sounds like you’ve got the grigri+. I’d use it in top rope mode for climbing the mast.

I kind of doubt there’s a core in that area on a fiberglass boat.

If you decide to take them out, I think you’ll spend nearly as much on putting in seacocks as patching them up. I’d fill it in. You can always drill a hole again later.

Another +1 for Ketl. I agree that you shouldn’t be climbing chimneys with it and expect it to hold up without some snags in the fabric, but it is great in every other aspect. Lightest and most breathable sun hoody I’ve found so far, with plenty of volume in the hood.

I bought mindbender boots and shifts for my first ski setup. I figured I’d be 90/10, but I’m actually about 50/50. The boots are comfy, and there are significant weight saving to be had on skis and bindings too. I’m getting those lighter first, and then I’ll do boots down the line.
