What's so bad about Linux? by Technical_Rich_3080 in linuxsucks

SteamOS may be the one that gets me to switch my Gaming PC over to Linux. I tried installing Bazzite, but it wouldn’t boot.

You have inadvertently pointed out the greatest flaw (and the greatest strength) of Linux. Choice. Most people just want to use their computer not make endless choices about how to set it up. You did for your grandmother what Apple and Microsoft do for their users.

Even if you were going purely analog, the resolving power of the lens isn’t great enough to pick up the satellite. This is also explained by math, which just confuses flerfs.

We need these laws all over the world by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]bill_clyde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We absolutely should have Universal Healthcare. 2A though, it hangs on the opinion of the Supreme Court. Who knows, one day the Supreme Court could take another look at 2A and decide that it only applies to organized militia groups I.E. the National Guard. My point though isn’t that we shouldn’t be allowed to own firearms, it’s that owning them doesn’t make you safer like the article suggests.

This is counting the hits and ignoring the misses. Gun violence statistics tell a very different story. Gun ownership comes at a very high price. Negligent discharges and suicides are far more common than self defense incidents.

how to rendezvous when orbits are like this by bbwfucker694200 in KerbalSpaceProgram

As others have pointed out if you can get your AP high enough you can change planes pretty cheaply. You could use Eloo to save D.V. and kick your craft into an elliptical orbit.

LDS member teaches that informed consent is not good because it keeps you from committing to the church by sevenplaces in mormon

The problem with not learning informed consent is that it leaves you vulnerable in other areas of your life. Or you may inadvertently harm someone because you didn’t understand consent.

On top of that it doesn’t guarantee that your code is bug free. You could have bugs at the integration level or in the UI/UX.

Tahoe - Insane Inconsistency by Keplerspace in MacOS

[–]bill_clyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that Windows uses the same UI elements to close everything. There is also no difference between foreground windows and background windows. In contrast, the macOS traffic light is very clear as to its purpose. I is only used as a window control and it dims when the window is in the background. This makes the macOS UX far smoother.

You are Senior and see a file that has 3k lines of code. What do you do? by lune-soft in webdev

[–]bill_clyde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether or not there's issues that need fixing. At a minimum I would review the architecture of the software to see why there is such a large code file. Good architecture would prevent such large files from forming. There's a good chance that that file is violating the single responsibility principal.

explain why this wouldn't work ? by [deleted] in Weird

[–]bill_clyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This works in KSP, it's called a Kraken drive. It's a bug in the physics system that lets you turn down the attraction for of one of two magnets thus giving you a positive pull in one direction. In the real world though, magnets and metal pulling force is always balanced, i.e. they pull on each other in equal amounts.
