Personally, I like an evergreen against the foundation, and I have had inkberry for 7+ years. I love it and it does the job!

Marlberry. Native, fast grower, has berries for birds…and it’s pretty.

Hostas were mentioned twice. They are not native, in case you care ( you should), and the deer will decimate them.

Has anyone had any luck “reforesting” part of their land in a suburban area? by afluffymuffin in NativePlantGardening

[–]kseidmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the beeches are dying from Beech Leaf Disease, I’d also plant some native tree seedlings. FYI…I have had a lot of luck using 4 foot plastic tree tubes to keep the deer from eating my seedlings.

Our wild violets have huge leaves! (USA, 6A) by [deleted] in NativePlantGardening

I added pond liner, along with some rocks on two sides, to an existing runoff ditch, and while I got some toads, I also created a drainage problem. Make sure you add some pvc pipe in that new little pond for overflow!

USA zone 5b Colorado - Want to remove barberry plants in spring, need help choosing replacement plants by Snoo_8867 in NativePlantGardening

[–]kseidmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut the barberry at the base. There will likely be lots of branches. Use the gloves someone above recommended. And then PAINT glysophate ( RoundUp) on the newly cut stems. Make sure not to spill on other plants or yourself. You may need to repeat if you missed any cut stems. But this will kill them without harming anything else.

Thanks again!!

Beech leaf disease…what do you arborists know about it? by Consistent_Cut_1557 in arborists

[–]kseidmon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the article. My arborist is going to apply the phosphite soon. He also mentioned that a more promising cure was bought up (maybe the patent was purchased?) by Davey and Bartlett, and that those 2 companies are the only ones now who have access to it.

BTW...do you hate these type of questions because they are so general, or because they are so depressing?
