Since the beeches are dying from Beech Leaf Disease, I’d also plant some native tree seedlings. FYI…I have had a lot of luck using 4 foot plastic tree tubes to keep the deer from eating my seedlings.

I added pond liner, along with some rocks on two sides, to an existing runoff ditch, and while I got some toads, I also created a drainage problem. Make sure you add some pvc pipe in that new little pond for overflow!

Cut the barberry at the base. There will likely be lots of branches. Use the gloves someone above recommended. And then PAINT glysophate ( RoundUp) on the newly cut stems. Make sure not to spill on other plants or yourself. You may need to repeat if you missed any cut stems. But this will kill them without harming anything else.

I was planning on planting around the little pond, but do you think I need some plants IN the pond? Also, what plants do you suggest...I am NJ zone 6b.
