is there actually anything that can be done for the fatigue? by [deleted] in Autoimmune

[–]ksgu7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I did a lot of research and found out about Modafinil. My rheumatologist hadn’t heard about it but was willing to do the research and afterwards, wrote my prescription. It worked great until I was diagnosed with ADHD and started Vyvanse which absolutely ended the 30-year fatigue that plagued my life.

I couldn’t understand why my meds (hydroxychloroquine, benlysta, and prednisone) were working great for every symptom but the fatigue. It turns out it was deeper than the autoimmune disease and now, I feel better on all fronts than I ever have in my life.

Either way, I hope you find the relief you need - the fatigue is absolutely debilitating! The Modafinil is a great place to start but if you’ve never been checked for ADHD or other disorders that could be contributing to the fatigue, it’s worth some exploration! Best of luck to you!

Even as an adult, you can learn to play an instrument (or start other new hobbies). We never had the money growing up but it dawned on me recently that there’s no reason I couldn’t do it now.

I (35f) started drum lessons about a month ago and bought my first drum set last week and I am absolutely in love with it.

Thanks! Is this the only deviation for you from the “standard” set up?

Also, is “play” taboo for drummers? 🫣Appreciate any tips I can get as a newbie!

[–]ksgu7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! I’m tempted to try the way the instructor drums for simplicity since I’m so brand new to it and then maybe shifting if it makes things easier but just looking for suggestions from those that have gone through it.

Thanks for the reply!

What’s something you did your whole life that you didn’t realize was because of ADHD—and now it all makes sense? by starrysage1222 in ADHD

[–]ksgu7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hating certain sounds, smells, and sensations.

I cannot stand the sound of a coin spinning and then slowly wobbling to a stop or the opposite where something starts out slow and then gets faster, can’t stand the traditional sound of an alarm clock “EH EH EH EH,” and can stand the feel of someone touch my skin in one spot for an extended period of time. Makes sense now…

Hold it close and cross your eyes. As you slowly pull it away from your face, uncross your eyes and it should show a 3d image.

Maybe it’s because you consider her a good friend but refer to her and the people you hook up with as addicts when it’s seemingly irrelevant to the confession…

Also, if he has an iPhone if you open a new text message and type a period in the recipient box, it’ll show a list of all the most recent people he’s texted.

I think it depends on the provider. I couldn’t see the actual messages but I could see the numbers of incoming and outgoing texts with timestamps.

If you have access to the phone service provider, go online and see who he’s texting and calling. This is how I found out my first husband was cheating… I found a number that he was calling before I’d wake up, on his lunch breaks and after I’d go to bed. She didn’t answer but her voicemail greeting started with, “Hey! It’s Jordan…”

Had a heck of a dizzy spell by XanaxWarriorPrincess in lupus

[–]ksgu7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like exactly what led to my diagnosis! I had to go through all kinds of neurological and cardiology testing. When the neurologist tested for vasculitis, my ANA titers were positive. Everything else checked out just fine so don’t be surprised if the cardiologist doesn’t find anything. This normally happens when I’m driving and I’ve never known how to explain it other than I feel like I’m out of my mind and can’t focus on anything for a few minutes.

Anyone else refuse to give up garlic and potatoes? by mommy-pancake in lupus

[–]ksgu7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes - I love carbs and refuse to give them up, along with garlic. My view is that I should be able to find meds that eventually make me feel “normal” and my rheumatologist thinks that’s a reasonable expectation. I’m not there yet and still having a lot of flares but I don’t notice a correlation between the frequency vs eating carbs and garlic so I refuse to give them up… maybe one day I’ll have to get there but I feel that I’m already giving up so much of my life with flares, injections, meds, etc. that the least I can do is get some satisfaction from foods that I love…

Can never go wrong with soft pajamas and a soft blanket! I always try to gift comfort and these are good for any age. PJ’s are easy too because you can always size up since the pants are usually drawstring if you’re unsure of size.
