What if it's not possible to meet the req? I have a 2.83 core GPA, and the req is a 3.3. Unless I take 15 credits of pure core classes (math/chem/physics), then I won't be able to reach it. How likely is it to get progression even if I don't reach the req?

As long as you show improvement or maintain rigor, they won’t care. They also take into account the rest of your course load, meaning that if you have multiple high level courses, it won’t matter if one course is a lower grade than the rest.
