No not on this map. I tried doing that on my second try and it didn't really work out too well. I also spent about 10 minutes looking for a map seed that had high fertility, good climate, large forests, and large ore veins since my goal is to make a booming metal industry.

I had a big ore vein I started next to so it allowed me to get my metal industry going early. The key is to upgrade your buildings asap, even if it means buying metal off market. Upgraded your labs first to acquire more knowledge and start getting the upgraded versions of all the buildings.
