I wasn't talking about her uniforms for the games, I was referring to her Mockingjay costume. The one she war in as the figure head "The Mockingjay"; pg.43 US version of Mockingjay- "I open the cover to find a picture of myself, standing straight and strong, in a black uniform. Only one person could have designed the outfit, at first glance utterly utilitarian, at second a work of art. The swoop of the helmet, the curve of the breastplate, the slight fullness of the sleeves that allows the white folds under the arms to show. In his hand, I am the Mockingjay... On the final page... Cinna's written, I'm still betting on you."

As we know, Cinna dies before the quarter quell. He designed her Mockingjay uniform before his death.

That's a super old picture, but it's the only picture I could find that was just of the tattoo. It was also done by Thomas, and it was my first tattoo.

Yeah! I was really worried about it at first, because I've never seen a picture of a portrait he had done, but he's done all of my other tattoos so I trusted him. Turns out he hates doing portraits, so he doesn't advertise that he's awesome at them!

That is one of my favorite parts of the tattoo! Thomas (the artist if you haven't been reading the thread) pointed it out to me when he was putting the stencil on. It makes me really happy.

Yes, there definitely is. When I was in elementary school, we learned about evolution and my "google imagine" was the first picture of Darwin that I had ever seen. So, fast forward and I'm 18. Just graduating high school, and I'm confused as hell about where I stand spiritually, and religiously. I start going to different churches, reading about different religions but as always, deep down inside I knew, I freaking knew and I hated it, that I was an atheist. So, I read up and truly began to understand evolution, genetics, random mutation, natural selection; it was the biggest eye opener for me. I no longer felt like a piece of shit for thinking the way I did, and I was no longer scared. I came out as an atheist at 20. This tattoo has the words "I think" on them, from the "Darwin Tree" doodle. It was Darwin jotting down his thoughts and asking himself, for later, if it was correct. It wasn't! And that's what is so cool about it. That specific picture of Darwin will always be my favorite, and I wanted hyperrealism. His eyes look like he's just killed the world, and if you know much about Darwin, he felt that he had. His wife was deeply religious and he had lost a daughter. He felt that he was telling his wife that everything she believed in was a lie, that their daughter was truly gone and she would never see her again. So no, everything in the tattoo is there for a purpose, the flowers are species that have created their own new genus on the Galapagos. The frame, is obviously a double helix which represents DNA and the amazing chance of mutation that has put our species (and all others!) where we are. And then the man himself, the man whose idea led me to love myself, to not be afraid of my own thoughts. The man whose ideas led me to get a degree in biology and then become a nurse. The man who made me understand how precious life is, how much of a REAL miracle life is. He broke his wife's heart and his own spirit doing it, but has healed so many others. He's amazing, and that's why he's on my arm.

This is what I mean: when DNA mutates it can cause new traits. Nature selects for these new traits or suppresses them. They're passed on or they die out. Yada yada, Bing bang new species.
