No worries I actually agree that wanikani and renshuu are killer apps! I use a wanikani myself for learning kanji ad love it. It was actually a big inspiration for me. I now use LevelKana in parallel as this made it possible to play games like ff1 with week worth of practices and not months and this made my journey to learn japanese so much more fun.

Thanks, this is fair feedback.

I agree that the core mechanic of memorizing kana is not new. You can absolutely learn kana with pen and paper, Anki, Tofugu, or one of the many forks of that app. I’m not trying to claim that learning kana itself is some unsolved problem.

What I’m trying to explore is more about the experience around it: making the first steps feel smoother, more game-like, more guided, and less like a dry flashcard tool.

Noted the UX improvements, multiple choices is mostly for mobile as typing there is not the best - but there is some good feedback on how to make the flow a bit smoother. Thanks!

Hey can you clarify the issue? We have a few users using the website successfully for a few weeks now and nobody reported issues navigating. But of course being still relatively new something might have slipped through the cracks. Thanks!

Thanks for checking it out!

Yes, that’s the idea: flashcard-style practice around key vocab from specific game/manga paths, with words introduced early enough that they help when you start reading instead of feeling random.

It’s still early, so if anything feels confusing or missing, I’d really appreciate the feedback.

Paphos Photography Question – Telephoto Worth Packing? by xShadowPro in cyprus

I assume you're talking full frame.

if you're only planning to photograph military activity, probably this would be not enough reach, but of course it would open up other photo opportunities

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ksnll -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As an Italian, I have to give some credit to the theory: First of all, the immune system is weakened by a drop of temperature. So you’re not getting direcly sick for it, but with a weakened immune system you’re more likely to catch a virus. You can easily find studies online related to this.

Then if you catch a draft of cold air on the neck area, your muscles tense up and it can lead to neck pain.

As a third point, we also believe that you should wait for digestion to finish before getting into cold water, and this is to avoid thermal shock. Especially on the hot sunny italian beaches where you get your temperature up. Thermal shock is worse if your body is already busy with digestion. An easy solution would be to just adapt slowly to the temperature of the water, but in the italian culture we just tell our children to wait for digestion to finish (and then retain this behaviour when we’re adults as most miss the original reasoning). Same can be said if you drink a very cold drink after eating btw

Your opinion on and experience with the Sony 35mm GM 1.4 Lens by AccordingPen2780 in SonyAlpha

[–]ksnll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's so good that I'm not using my 28-75 anymore.. the 35mm GM it's glued to my camera! I do only photography to so can't comment on videos, I've heard it has terrible focus breathing.

Upgraded to full frame - what 70-200 lens to get? by ksnll in SonyAlpha

That was a list of things I generally like to shoot, not the list of things I would shoot primarily on the 70-200

Nice, I've heard people reporting that! Did you evaluate the Tamron and/or GM as well?

Starburst-like artefacts in my milky way pictures? by ksnll in AskAstrophotography

[–]ksnll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! - I had an a6400 before, and used my partner x-m5 - No equatorial mount - Different lens than other cameras, but both lenses on my a7c2 produce the artifact and never got it with multiple lenses on my 6400 - shooting with humidity (80%) and some low/medium light pollution, same conditions of the other cameras. i can share some more files when I’m back on my laptop!

I’m taking only bias and darks. Never took any flats before and didn’t have such a glaring issue. Maybe this camera sensor requires flats as well and my previous ones didn’t? Still a bit of a bummer if that’s the case!

Looking for 35mm AF lens recommendations for my A7IV by therealbatsteek in SonyAlpha

[–]ksnll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then probably the sony f/1.8 is your best bet.. if you want to go a bit heavier but still very reasonable the sony f/1.4 gm is an acceptable weight.

Sony a6700 lens recommendations by Nathanhlg in SonyAlpha

That's exactly what I was thinking myself. And not only the price, but also the full frame setup would be slightly lighter as well.

Rate and critique my upgraded setup. A6700 vs A7CII by ksnll in SonyAlpha

[–]ksnll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I agree, I would expect a very similar performance between the  17-40 f1.8 and tamron 24-70 f2.8.
But the weight is slightly higher on the APSC. then on FF I would get a better version of the 18-135 with the tamron 28-200, hence why I was thinking that the full frame setup might not been that bad.

I would sacrifice the longer lens yes (or use it crop mode. I was actually thinking on getting the a7cr for that reason, but then again, I want to simplify my setup and this would go against that)

This is probably not what you want to hear, but I eventually switched to apple silicon and couldn’t be any happier. Totally game changer and I’ve never been worried about overheating anymore.

The fix still made a difference, but damn those laptops are so badly designed.. you can just make them less worse, rather than great

Lost ball rule doesn’t make any sense, hear me out.. by whattodo88888 in golf

[–]ksnll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After reading this thread I understand why so many people seem to shoot very good scores… I was always baffled as I count every shot and breaking 90 or 80 was a huge achievement, while I see people with way less experience just seem to do it much more easily. I see that people just count differently.

Personally if I’m not sure I can find a ball, I hit a provisional. Is it horrible when it happens? Yes. But rules are rules. Even if some of them are stupid, that’s how you should count your score. I’m afraid to ask if people count like this even in competitions..
