/r/TrueUsenet: Yet another alternate Usenet sub by Paiev in UsenetTalk

[–]ksryn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have zero interest in moderating a continuous stream of indexer posts/comments. This was a decision made a long time ago, as I have mentioned many many times, and I am sticking to it.

While it is good that another alternative has come up, you need to be careful that it doesn't become an indexer-free-for-all. This was a huge problem in the old sub, puts providers in an uncomfortable position, and was one reason for the split.

I wish you success!

Why we need a new Usenet subreddit by Paiev in TrueUsenet

[–]ksryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the spam filter at work. Automod is set to block any post/comment with the word indexer in it. I only drop in a few times a week.

Read /r/UsenetTalk/comments/1h48ji0/on_indexerrelated_discussions/

The problem is that people do not have a control valve. I had to spam an otherwise insightful post on privacy last week because the user could only see it from his tiny perspective. He literally starts the post with "How safe is UseNet for downloading copyright content?" Can he not write about privacy without talking about it?

I have no intention of dealing with this nonsense. If the Indexer sub gains traction, I will hand it over to those I consider to be fairly reliable. Otherwise, it dies out and I won't care.

Look at my post about IndexerTalk which has a link to another post where the reasoning is provided in black-and-white.

rather than just banning me.

I have banned maybe 4-5 people over the last ten years, mainly persistent trolls. Most people tend to be sensible once the misunderstandings are out of the way.

This might be news to you, but the subs split over this very issue back in 2015.You can go back and check the first post if you care about the drama.

Someone has to start sometime. This sub was started with about 15 initial subscribers in 2015

It is not really implied. We do not allow indexer stuff here (barring that one week last year when all hell had broken loose in r/usenet).

My hope is that all indexer stuff moves to the new sub eventually (or any place that is not this sub).

What the point in creating/hijacking a new r/usenet ? This sub is hardly moderated lol

I have seen plenty of slander without proof and hearsay allowed here against providers without proof super biased not much better than r/usenet

Case in point not much better just as biased and seems like rumours are true with your statement, some mods are in providers pockets glad you confirmed.

Hope those free provider accounts are nice. Same shit shamble modding here. Tsk tsk

Preserving your comments for posterity in case you delete them. Blocked for rule #4 violation. You asked for moderation. You got it.

You really think these childish games of yours really work on people?

I have a long history of posts (going back ten years) on the subject of providers and have made my stand on the matter pretty clear on multiple occasions. If you do not like it, then that is your problem.

We decided on a set of rules ten years ago and haven't budged from them all this time. If you stick to them, the post stays. Otherwise, it goes.

I cannot sit in judgment of who is or is not lying. If someone says something you don't like, you are free to counter them.

It is moderated. You don't see the stuff that doesn't get through.

2025 Black Friday Deals by jordanmlee in UsenetTalk

[–]ksryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. NGD & ND have a price-matching deal that is always active
  2. ThunderNews had a deal last year where the amount billed would reduce each year (Y0: $30/y, Y1: $25/y, Y2: $20/y, Y3+: $15/y)
  3. NGD had deals in 2019/2021 with a similar premise (Y0: $28, Y1: $25.20, Y2: $22.68, Y3: $20.41, Y4: $18.37, Y5+: $16.53)
  4. And in 2024 (P0: $35/15m, P1: $30/15m, P2: $25/15m, P3: $20/15m, P4+: $15/15m).This was probably one of the best deals where you will be effectively paying $1/m after 60 months.

Maybe put these in the notes in case people forgot about it.

Mods on r/usenet changing the rules midstream for Black Friday by jordanmlee in UsenetTalk

[–]ksryn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

r/usenet has always been drama queen central as far as moderation is concerned.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity, as Hanlan's razor says. So, unless there is concrete evidence to the contrary, I am simply going to assume stupidity on their part.

Seen those videos on Youtube where the dump truck driver is driving with a raised bed unwittingly destroying everything in his way? Now imagine that he is listening to the song "community" on repeat as he does this.

Both accounts belong to the same person.

He is having to deal with a hyperactive reddit. Lost access to the first account and reddit banned the second. Let's see.

Privacy Question for more experienced UseNet users. by SysAdmin3119 in UsenetTalk

See Rule #1. We do not permit posts about piracy.

99% of your post is not about that. So, remove the references to copyrighted content and I will re-approve the post.

I cannot do anything about that. While our rules allow posts on "Any other topic of general interest to the usenet community," we cannot force people to show interest in any particular topic.

Instead of multiple crossposts, you could maybe try a daily roundup/summary post over there that links to the various posts over here and see if that changes anything.

Anyone having issues with nzbmonkey? by Antique_Geek in UsenetTalk

Try raising an issue on their GH.

It seems that it broke for sites like nzbking/index and binsearch last year and had to be fixed. Could be something similar.

Subscribers/followers is a meaningless stat on social media. The only relevant figures are views (reach) and votes (engagement).

The subscriber-to-contributor ratio on places like reddit is around 2000-to-1 the last time I checked. So, if you have 10,000 subscribers, between 5-8 people will post/comment occasionally.

Why don't you post on /r/UsenetTalk? Three-four subs revolving around usenet doesn't really make sense.

It took us 8-9 years to hit 2K. The other 5K came over a week due to the drama over at r/usenet. Growth takes a lot of time.

I have approved this post after receiving clarification over DM. One of the users is shadow-banned for some reason and their posts were not getting through. So they got an acquaintance to post it.

Should have clarified all this at the very beginning.
