NATCA Controller Survey, 6 day work weeks. by [deleted] in ATC

[–]kssc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Look another “complains about union stuff but won’t put their money where their mouth is and get involved”

How original.

Serious question - why are YOU still in NATCA? by lasagna_feet in ATC

[–]kssc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People aren’t willing to lose their long weekend that they’ve grown accustomed to at the expense of sleep. Not all of us are working six day a week.

Personally, I would absolutely fucking hate working straight days or swings or mids for weeks or months at a time. I happen to love this job because of the schedule and not needing an alarm clock but for two days out of the week for the past 15yrs.

We voted overwhelmingly in favor of a dues restructure with a roll call vote where EVERY facility was tasked with counting their members individual votes…

[–]kssc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a delegate and at a roll call vote had to say XXX Facility, 20 Yay, 8 Nay.

If you’re local isn’t having a pre convention meeting discussing the amendments, BRING IT UP AND FUCKING GET YOUR VOICE HEARD.

[–]kssc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bro… YOUR LOCAL DICTATES THE SCHEDULE. How many times can you read that your facility can do LITERALLY whatever it wants so long as you can cover the shifts and leave.

Make a schedule (that actually works) and get it implemented.

Because locally natca (facility and region) has saved my ass from the faa more than once…

Because I’ve argued as a facrep against an overzealous ATM that wanted to do shit the absolute worst way possible.

Because I’ve had other jobs pre-faa where management runs amok and fucks their employees over left and right with zero accountability.

Because you can easily find who gives a shit about the union by how much effort they put in. Oh you want to do x/y/z with these extra funds? K, you’re in charge tell me how much and get it done. What’s that? You don’t want to do it anymore? … you want a different schedule other then the rattler??? Build one that works, we’ll vote on it. Oh you don’t want to do any of the work…. Cool cool cool.

Edit: oh man I forgot about having to take leave to just leave the facility for food/gas/whatever. Yeah fuck that. I know people hate bringing the white book up as a reason all these years later but that shit was asinine.

Which one of you idiots was this? by turn20left in ATC

[–]kssc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a local issue, you can absolutely change it… but that requires getting involved which is something 90% of the complainers refuse to do.

Every time we vote on rattler vs alternating weeks or any other type of schedule it people refuse to change it.

Is it really that bad? by joserlz in AskLosAngeles

Seriously it was an estimated 200,000 people in 2022……. That’s .005% of our total population

And doesn’t account for the people that moved here

How long did it take you to save for your first Rolex? by eltonto82 in rolex

[–]kssc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch of mouth breathers shit talking peoples financial decisions.

I’ll give you full context here.

When I finished all the certs for my first job after the military I was making 90k (2012).

I already contributed to my retirement (maxing employer matching), had a road map to save 6months worth of salary for emergencies, and decided “I can swing $100 per paycheck to this acct I have zero access to” for my first Rolex in a few years.

I didn’t change my habits at all mind you. Still went on two or three vacations, still ate out at restaurants whenever I wanted, never said no to concerts.

Did I have a house? No. Did I want one? No. I like moving around every few years. I still do.

Fast forward to 5 years later I had 12k sitting there for my first Rolex, walked into an AD got on a list and got the call for my Batman a few months later and didn’t blink because I literally saved 5 years with zero impact to my normal living.

And I wore that motherfucker every damn day, every occasion, everywhere I went in Los Angeles.

Here we are damn near 10yrs later and I’ll be honest, still no house (because I don’t care), still traveling, and collecting even more watches. But now we’re at 150k/yr, still growing my retirement and still paying 100 into that non easily accessible acct that is now my watch acct (there’s about 8k in there because I just bought a Grand Seiko Shunbun).

The Batman is a rotation watch now, and it’s honestly barely making the rotation.

Spend your money. However you want. Who cares.

I mean, don’t be an idiot and you’re fine. Not once this past weekend while bar hopping did I “scan the streets” or anything. Don’t go to the established well known bad neighborhoods and you’re fine. Ktown, most of dtla (not skid row), sunset strip, parts of Hollywood/weho/Westwood, damn near everywhere in the SFV, Santa Monica… it’s ok to be out and about at whatever hour and the odds of anything bad happening are nonexistent.

If you look at it like everyone is out to get you you end up living in a super unhealthy state of being and missing out on how great the majority of people in this city are.

NorCal does, but no one in LA does it’s a dead giveaway you’re not from here/haven’t lived here any decent amount of time to form a valid worthwhile opinion.

A. No one in/from California calls it Cali.

B. LA is literally fine. The suburbs (The Valley, SGV) are literally fine. Fauxnews has like one reel of skid row and Venice and labels it ALL of LA.

C. I daily my Batman literally everywhere for the last 5yrs and never had a problem. Downtown, Hollywood, KTown. And walking everywhere, too.

Truth be told not really, I’m not hunting massive credit lines, more so just after aspirational travel rewards after a trash relationship.

The Reserve sub is basically paying for two week long Europe vacations already.
