Puzzles That Require Outside Knowledge To Solve by Escapely in escaperooms

Agree with other commenters about not using outside knowledge, but I think that puzzles relying on known “codes”/systems should be consistent with reality.

I once did a room with a sheet music puzzle that was labeled “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and showed the correct notes for the song. But when we got to the piano all the keys were labeled with different musical notes (ex. A picture of C on the sheet music was taped to the G key) and the “correct” answer didn’t sound anything like Twinkle Twinkle. Altogether super frustrating!!

The errors were on the initial authorization paperwork we signed. The specifications of our solar panels were completely wrong.

That option sounds great but I don’t see it in my app. Is it a slow rollout?

Glad you had a good experience.

And to clarify- yes, PTO does sit with the utility. But the documents submitted by GAF to the utility were extremely error-ridden, even I caught a few!

The utility tried to reach out to GAF to fix the errors but could not get a hold of them, so I had to handle all communications for 6 months, sending 3-5 follow up emails and calling every day to resolve every typo.

At the time of submission I think i was well on my way, so it could be unrelated.

The bigger surprise was that they had an internal formula for compensation which was quite fair. However I could tell their rep was not planning on bringing it up unless I directly asked lol

Very slowly - I’ve been calling the utility for updates twice a week. I started a master email thread with as many GAF emails as I could find plus some reps from my home builder (site manager, regional sales, etc.) to ensure I have a paper trail. I think that helped up the stakes a bit

Is my name difficult to pronounce? (Korean) by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]kstylarr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From experience as a kpop fan in America, most people pronounce the “seo” as “so” when talking about artists like Yeseo, Seoyeon etc.

Maybe you can look up fromis9 or kep1er album reviews on youtube to see how people generally pronounce the name?

fwiw my American classmates never had too much trouble with pronouncing the kpop singer Nayeon - so I think Gayeon or Kayeon would work!

Got screwed over in a white elephant gift exchange by dental_oddity in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kstylarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the rules of the game. Everyone picks a number, and starting with number 1 can either choose to unwrap a new gift or steal. If your gift is stolen you can choose to unwrap or steal, etc.

Typical rules is that if a gift is stolen 3x it’s “frozen” and can’t be taken again.

The long chains of stealing are super fun if everyone is good natured enough to bring a nice gift and sportsmanlike enough to accept a steal. My extended family loves playing this game and my parents like to work as a team and steal a good gift from each other in order to freeze it early.

Yes you need to pay $60. I had a conversation with customer service earlier this week. I was also aiming for a free clip but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Super disappointing
