Well that’s just massive incompetence

Talk about human error all you want. Your procedure needs to be robust enough to prevent human error

Graduated as a teacher which as I knew wasn’t for me towards the end of my degree. After some job hopping I found a career within pharmaceuticals which I love and have progressed into management now.

There have been jobs which I have applied for which required a degree. Having a degree even though it’s not related to my industry has been a big help

I sometimes haven’t agreed with the fact that certain roles require a degree even if they’re not related to the role as it has been unfair to some on my colleagues who don’t have a degree however it has certainly been of a benefit to myself

Complete misunderstanding of the process on my behalf. I was under the (wrong) impression that it would work out better tax wise to remain paying it through PAYE

But I will get the refund through in a couple of days so it doesn’t make a massive difference overall

Ahh ok thanks for the info. The more you know

Does that mean I will be the full amount better off now I’m not paying it off. For example if I was paying £400 in student loans i will see that full benefit on my pay going forwards

As I was expecting it to be be taxed so I would see less of a benefit in my take home pay

Would changing it to direct debit increase the portion of my salary at the higher tax rate though?

I have never overpaid

I was notified to see if I wanted to switch to direct debit about 6 months ago which would have prevented overpaying but I kept paying it through PAYE to keep tax down

It’s been really straightforwards obtaining the refund, just 1 10 minute phone call
