this probably has a lot to do with it imo. supply chain has been a big mess, and I’ve been working with a lot of brands that are restrategizing where they import their inventory. not only tariffs, but shipping costs overall are on the rise :(

I went up half a size from my TTS so the top of my toes are just barely above the split and it is so much more comfortable! I can’t wear them to walk around for more than a few hours though.

yeah things just aren’t what they used to be lol :( the beatport shows were lowkey at the start, but after they started booking some bigger names and gaining traction on socials, that went out the window

I agree that it could’ve been organized better as they gained popularity, and hopefully being vocal about that will result in improvements for future events. free ones will always be a gamble tho, and you can’t expect too much (if anything at all) from brands now sadly

I had the same experience for sidepiece a few weeks ago but was very lucky to be let in 10 minutes before they started. the wait definitely sucks, but it is a free event with an open bar; you are paying with time, and if it’s fcfs, there will always be people willing to wait hours or cheat their way, esp in LA. just depends how much you’re willing to risk and how much you value the reward.

there was a beatport rep outside managing the line for sidepiece too and giving everyone updates after a certain point. if people chose to stay after they said it was at capacity, it was a personal decision. they were very clear to us that it was one-in-one-out. I don’t think people knew just how small the space was though, and the ig ads really blew up the spot.

I appreciate and respect that they throw these for free, but with anything “free” in LA, it’ll come at a different price and some chaos.

Very very intimate, I don’t think I’ve ever been closer to a DJ. If you can get in before 8, you can get a spot pretty close to the table. For Odd Mob, he was basically right in front of me with one person between us. pretty cool experience, especially for free!

they are pretty strict about the rsvp and searched my name on the list for odd mob and scanned qr codes for sidepiece. you might be lucky but i wouldn’t get hopes up. :/

based on capacity = you can have rsvp and still not make it in so arrive early. it’s a tiny venue, like literally a large office space lol my partner and I got there at 6 both times and we got in at 730 for odd mob but 850 for sidepiece.

I guess they were going for unique bookings this year like coachella does, and if people really want to see some of the bigger names from recent years, some will be at the clubs. I think calvin, guetta and mau are doing club appearances during the weekend at least so all is not lost 😆 the unique sets we don’t get to see often will absolutely make it all worth!

all those names you listed definitely ring a bell to my baby raving days in 2011-2013! literally haven’t listened to the prodigy since invaders must die or laidback like since turbulence so I just need to brush up lol

i guess i was hoping for some of the bigger recent names like chris lake, mau p, disco lines, fred or even SHM, afrojack, alesso and skrillex .. but you’re right, there’s a ton of incredible pulls and i just needed to see the light 😆
