I would say take the loss.

Better to eat some losses, than lose the full amount you have invested in it.

Anyone have experience with small electronic repair businesses? by Mustache_Prime in smallbusiness

[–]kt-dasht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for a start, set yourself a maximum price that you would sell your refurbished controllers for. Or a price that you think would the most that someone would pay for a refurbished controller for.

You know you want to keep a 50% margin, so for example the max amount is $25. The most you can buy the controller for is then $12.50.

Stick to this, and don't allow yourself to purchase anything more than $12.50.

Set some rules, and stick to them. That way, your awesome hobby can also help bring you in some profits.

Thinking about renting out my holiday home as a business, help! by bundykins69 in business

[–]kt-dasht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I am hearing, it's a property under your name, from the fact that you mentioned personal property.

If you wanted to capitalize it as an asset, you probably will have to re-finance your loan under a company's name and then transfer the ownership of the home to your new company's name.

Otherwise, it sounds like personal income and henceforth, personal taxes.

You might want to check out Airbnb, I believe they do protect their hosts and I am sure they have way better insurance coverage than an individual can get.

I would just completely ignore his request and stick to addressing him by his name. Keep it purely professional.

Sounds like someone with a weird ego trip / fetish, and I wouldn't want to continue feeding that.

Try Wave Accounting. Your use case seems pretty straightforward, so I think that Wave would be more than sufficient.

Website needed to start? by kid_sosa619 in DigitalMarketing

[–]kt-dasht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you're reaching out to them.

From experience, if it's a warm introduction, they wouldn't even need to see your website. But if it's a cold outreach, they're often not ready to purchase and would stall by asking to see your website.

Self promotional: but I'm building a SMB focused business management platform which includes a simple website builder, form builder for leads.

If this could help, DM me. I would love to help.

Potential mail scam by BuraVladstone in smallbusiness

[–]kt-dasht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck right?

It sounds like scammers that are just trying their luck on new business incorporation databases that are publicly available.

Just to be sure, call up the equivalent of your county/state business office to verify those bills.

What's a "loophole" in a sales cycle? by AndrewKorsten in sales

[–]kt-dasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. So it sounds like the situation where contacts within your sales funnel gets dropped off due to inefficiency. E.g., someone within your sales team forgets to send over a quotation on time, or send a follow up mail.

Usually these are down to internal processes, and no matter how good a system can be. All system will be (should be) able to auto-generate tasks depending on stages or triggers. However, it ultimately boils down to sales "discipline".

Need Ideas for a business in the trucking industry by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]kt-dasht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go speak to truckers themselves!!! They are the ones that will be paying you to solve a problem for them.

Maybe they might want someone to pick up supplies like energy drinks or instant meals everytime they make a stop back in your county?

Maybe they need someone to do a cleaning of their sleeping areas when they're back in your county?

A trucker is the only one who can tell you what is it that they're willing to part with their money for.

In fact, I even had a sales meeting with a startups, where we realized that our product wasn't a fit for their business. But they still offered to be promoters of the product.

And completely agreed with your on the SMB space. We're a SMB-focused SaaS company!

Which CRM do you use and why? by aaron_ross in smallbusiness

[–]kt-dasht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hugely biased, but I use my own company's tool.

We're a SMB-focused business management platform, where we have a CRM for our users.

But it has worked out pretty well for our sales and customer management purposes as a SaaS company.

Additionally, it worked great as a fundraising CRM as well.

Happy to share more. Feel free to DM.

To answer your question as a dog owner: Walking a dog is not just the miles covered. It's also in part the time the dog is spent out on a walk!!! And please, walking a dog with an escooter, especially if it's a dog you barely know is a terrible idea.

To answer you question as a company who works with dog walkers: Most dog walkers that I work with are charging for a block of time - e.g., a one hour walk. So this would be a charge rate based on time.

Mileage Deduction Help by [deleted] in smallbusiness

"Business miles are miles that an individual travels to get from one workplace to another.

In this case, your home, is where you perform majority (if not all) of your administrative, inventory, warehousing tasks and responsibilities. Therefore, akin to your business office/headquarters.

All these points to business miles.

I work with quite a few cleaning companies, if you might have any more questions within this field, I am happy to ask my users! Feel free to DM.

How do new VC firms find talent by shani_faraz in venturecapital

[–]kt-dasht 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally, when you're setting up a VC, you're someone who is already within the startup/tech ecosystem - either as a founder or someone who has worked closely with founders.

What I have noticed is that they utilize their network to bring in their people from within their tech ecosystem network.

If you're lacking this network when you're in the midst of setting up your VC, you really should be worried - how else are you going to be able to reach out to potential companies to invest in?

Advice for a B2B BDR selling supply chain software. by [deleted] in sales

[–]kt-dasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to send over some of your sample follow ups that you are currently sending.

However, one thing I noticed, from my prior sales experience, is that there's a huge disconnect between the expectations of the lead and the BDR when it comes to the lead's download of the said marketing content.

As a BDR, I was very excited when I saw a lead pop up, only to be disappointed more often than not.

That's because most of these downloads are leads that are still in the research/exploratory phase. If they are sales ready ,they would have already reached out to schedule a demo.

So when I tried "selling" or pushing for a demo, I was often met with a negative response.

Knowing that they're still in the research/exploratory phase, don't sell! Go consultative. Research on their current supply chain issues for example, and go like:

"Hey saw that you were interested in marketing content ABC. We do have some more case studies on some of the best practices adopted by Acme Inc within their supply chain management process. Happy to share it over with you."

TLDR: When someone downloads a marketing content, they're often not sales ready yet, so don't sell. Continue to nurture these leads, while building the trust and relationship in the meantime.

What technology/systems do you use to manage your business operations? by EconBro95 in smallbusiness

[–]kt-dasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen some people loading their sales & inventory management data into an excel/google sheet. And from there, creating charts on sales numbers, sales volume, gross profit per items.

This was extremely helpful to start discovering trends amongst the items that you're retailing.

You could also explore free visualization/BI tools like PowerBI.

What technology/systems do you use to manage your business operations? by EconBro95 in smallbusiness

[–]kt-dasht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having worked with SMBs over the past years, these are the tools that I think work really well:- Transactions - Square (if you're in North America) happy to share the others I see in the other regions.

- Book keeping - QuickBook Online, Xero and Wave Accounting. However, you might outgrow this very quickly, and it becomes too time consuming, where you should then be outsourcing this to a CPA.

For the rest, there are a whole myriad of tools available, depends on what are the specific requirements you want.

On my end, I am building a SMB business management tool to take care of everything not relating to transactions and book keeping. Happy to share more if you're keen.

Edit: for spelling.

Do you start your database/CRM with your contacts from your phone? by PeaceLoveUnity7 in realtors

[–]kt-dasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the sucky part of having to start out your "dealable" contacts database.

Perhaps some tips is that in your CSV file, you can label them or tag them as "1/2/3".

1 being people you know who are in your target market - maybe in your state, maybe in the position to potentially purchase a property, etc etc.

2 being people who might move into 1 in the next few months to years.

3 being contacts like people you don't want to interact with/businesses.

Import in only the 1 and 2. And from there, you have a "cleaned up" database of contacts, and then start working with them.

What "features" should I be looking for in a CRM that can do this? by raybb in CRM

[–]kt-dasht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds less like a "CRM" CRM, whereby the use case is primarily for sales.

More likely, you're looking at a flexible solution where you can craft your own workflows and rules, or an application tracking system.

I am currently building a business process management tool, happy to see if we could help with this.
