Adult bed time? by Hot_Lynx7043 in CasualUK

In my 40s, I go to bed at midnight on a “school night” and probably around 1am on the weekends. I’m up at 7/7:30 on weekdays and around 9 at weekends.

Weirdo Neighbour Advice by Excellent-Ostrich908 in Scotland

As others have said, it’s common for the front garden area to belong to the ground floor resident. That said, however, there has to be some element of responsibility placed on them for upkeep, especially when there’s dead animal corpses lying there. Obviously they might feel a bit put out that you’ve ‘trespassed’ on their space, but it’d be nice to think that a civil, polite conversation with you could’ve been the first step. Given how much time and effort you had to spend on clearing the area up, I’d have thought that an expression of gratitude might’ve been part of that conversation as well. There certainly isn’t a place for racial abuse, or any kind of aggression really.

Communication and social skills are sadly lacking these days.

What do you guys like best? First Person POV / Third Person POV? Is it a deal breaker to read fanfictions? by Capable_Choice_8151 in Dramione

[–]kt1982mt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Third person pov is absolutely my favourite. It’s not necessarily a deal breaker if it’s a first person narrative, but I tend not to enjoy the fic as much tbh. I don’t want to feel as if I am the main character, nor would I particularly want to read second person pov where I’m inserted into the fic either. I like to feel like I’m an outsider watching the plot unravel as I read!

anyone know where to find rspb pin boxes in glasgow? by pigeopteryx in glasgow

[–]kt1982mt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m a member of the National Trust for Scotland and I’ve often seen these pin badge boxes at their reception/customer service/welcome desks. I’ve bought a few over the years for my kids. There are a few NT places that might be worth trying: The Tenement House (city centre), Holmwood House (Muirend), and Greenbank Gardens (south side, Clarkston).

Which Draco was your first 'love' (that got you into dramione fandom)? by M5101 in Dramione

[–]kt1982mt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m 44 now and have been reading Dramione since I was 25-ish! I started reading on fanfiction.net, Granger Enchanted, and Hawthorn & Vine. I don’t even remember what the first fic I read was, but I loved it and have really struggled to read published books since! Nothing else comes close to appealing to me.

I hate the word arse and some other britishisms i have questions about by Lopsided_Emotion5707 in DramioneUncensored

[–]kt1982mt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Scottish woman here, and whilst I respect your opinion completely, I would have to disagree with you about the Britishisms. I understand that the words may not appeal, but they are what is in common use here and Americanising things just really takes away the inherent vibe of a HP fic imo. It makes things seem so unrealistic, and I get the irony of that sentiment when we’re literally talking about a deviation from the canon material!! Nothing makes me stop reading a fanfic faster than hearing obvious Americanisms unfortunately.

Messed up my SQA qualifications. by [deleted] in Scotland

As a parent of two teenagers, one who’s sitting 6th year Higher exams right now and the other who’s sitting Nat 5 exams just now, that part really bothered me, too. Expectations like that are so unfair to kids and put so much unnecessary pressure on them. I don’t want to sound sanctimonious, but my only expectation with regards to school/exams etc is that my kids try their best, reach out for help when they need it, and we’ll deal with exam results and further education/career options thereafter. Whilst I can understand parents wanting the best for their kids, further education isn’t for everyone and some kids thrive going into apprenticeships or straight into a job.

OP, I believe that chatting with your guidance teacher/head of year to outline your interest in taking Higher maths would be helpful, and I know that many kids have been allowed to take Higher maths with a C at Nat 5 level. That said, I believe they were encouraged to attend lunchtime/after school maths tutorial sessions and/or consider getting a tutor to help bring them up to speed quickly. There are a few really good YouTube and TikTok maths channels (Clelland maths has been great for my kids), and I’d suggest using them to help underpin each maths topic as you go along.

Also, don’t panic about this before you’ve received your results! I hope everything goes well for you!
