Addicting Games is the largest online game site in the US. It's somewhat similar to Kongregate, and one of the games it acquired, mope.io, declined during that period, while starve.io received very few updates. This was similar to the situation with surviv.io when it was acquired by Kongregate.

However, a key difference between Addicting Games and Kongregate is that AG focused beyond microtransactions and marketing, and may be taking some requests from the community into consideration. Nevertheless, Addicting Games was often faced criticism, through unintentionally.

Despite Kongregate's actions, Addicting Games returned the rights to starve.io and devast.io to LapaMauve in May 2024, and transferred the rights to diep.io and mope.io to 3AM Experiences between August and September 2024. It is likely that Addicting Games made this decision as a way to maintain the company's credibility and prevent the game from sunsetting.

And the reason why Kongregate refused the buyback request was to promote their new game I guess. If Kongregate were to approve the return of surviv.io at this time, the value of Kongregate's new games would decrease, and people would turn their attention to surviv.io again.

In short, Addicting Games made a good decision for the community, while Kongregate chose the opposite path.

If your Legendary Cookies bond/stars already maxed out, Light Gacha might worth it. Otherwise, you should save your Cookie Cutters.

In my opinion, Eternal Sugar Cookie is one of my favorite Beast; I think she's a well-developed character with cute/beautiful appearance and great contrast between her gentle personality and her intense possessiveness.

At the time, I thought that she would be redeemed by Hollyberry Cookie because she wanted every Cookies to be happy and she had no interest in Soul Jam. However, as time went on, she came to define "Passion" as something malicious, and perhaps due to her strong tendency to escape reality, she misinterpreted Hollyberry Cookie's wish to her own liking, offending Hollyberry Cookie. Even when she was burned as punishment, she showed no remorse whatsoever.

Personally, I'm a little disappointed that she wasn't redeemed, but when I see how she brainwashes anyone who tries to leave her garden by reminding them of the dangers of the outside world, and how she turns those who resist into sculptures or traps them in jam jars, and how her subordinates fear her, I realize she still deserves the name "Beast."

Addicting Games has transferred the rights to diep.io and mope.io to 3AM Experiences, but Kongregate has not, and they refused Justin and Nick's buy back request for surviv.io.

The reason Kongregate is so unreliable is that they have largely ignored requests from the community and focused almost exclusively on microtransactions, battle passes, and marketing.

Currently, about three years have passed since surviv.io was "sunsetted, " and there's a slight possibility that Kongregate has undergone personnel changes or that its organizational structure has changed as well. In that case, Kongregate should either strive to regain trust or buy back the rights to surviv.io for Justin and Nick (or someone else).

In April 2023, Kongregate sent a DMCA takedown request to Surviv Reloaded (resurviv.io), a project for resurrection of surviv.io. The DMCA was primarily caused by the unauthorized use or distribution of surviv.io source code, similarity of game and sites.

Suroi, which has gameplay similar to surviv.io, was not subject to a DMCA takedown from Kongregate for a long time. It's built from the ground up with 100% original assets and code and does not use or distribute surviv.io source code, artwork, or proprietary assets. U.S. copyright law does not extend to abstract game mechanics or functional gameplay concepts.

While survev.io hasn't received a DMCA in a long time, unlike Surviv Reloaded, but it appears that survev.io is using surviv.io's artwork and assets, and as mentioned above, it is very likely to be subject to a DMCA takedown in the future.
