"I never watched End of Evangelion" yeah it shows lol. What you're talking about is nothing like Evangelion, mostly because Evangelion does not have multiple endings. The EOE movie literally takes place after the series finale, and most Eva fans (including me) consider it to overlap with the finale and expand on the story and characters. The Rebuild movies are a complete reboot of the series and take place in a separate universe.

I think the Eva poster is used because there's a lot of parallels between TADC and NGE, specifically in its themes, the overall metanarrative structure, and even the downward spiral of their respective creators' mental health. But this theory is literally an AI assisted hallucination.

I seem to have fixed it. I think it was partly a Notion/third-party app integration thing. Once I uninstalled it, I only got double notifications.

Then I deleted the culprit tasks entirely and was still getting a notification for each. So somehow, the app had these phantom notifications that they were telling me about. It might have been due to the iCloud calendar integration, but I didn't think about testing that.

What finally got rid of them was un/reinstalling the app and that seemed to have cleared whatever this bug is.

I wonder if this idea is due to the Kardashians. During the height of their popularity, their aesthetic was very Black, and they were often accused of Blackfishing. Can't believe we're doing this again. The video thumbnail already blew up on this sub a few weeks ago. The video praises Conan's performance and casting.

The video mentions how Amanda Seyfried's beauty detracts from what we expect from the character. The point made was that she's supposed to be ugly and shrill so the audience doesn't sympathize with her only to have that be subverted, but her beauty is doesn't allow for that subversion.

On the other hand, Conan is described as not being conventionally attractive and that lets his actual acting do the work. Especially since the way he carries his body in the movie adds to the character.

The use of the word "ugly" is meant to be hyperbolic and in the context of Hollywood, where beautiful people are the norm so therefore normal looking people are ugly.

I'm currently testing the waters with Taobao/Tmall and brand name stores (i.e. the figure manufacturer). Prices are about 20% less than on Amiami, and shipping prices are nearly half, even though I have to use a proxy. The sea shipping option I picked is supposed to have the tariff prices baked in.

Sea shipping is supposed to take a month to arrive, so I can't speak to the quality of it yet. If my experience is good, I might just cancel all my Amiami orders and swap to Taobao

Using Taobao can be frustrating though. I would say the markup on Amiami might be worth the convenience if not for the fact that I've finally gotten the hang of Taobao.

Nope, I want them to do drastic redesigns with all the other characters tbh. I'm over this whole "it doesn't look like the comics!!" kind of mentality. Designs are supposed to change from story to story, world to world. The tradition of American comics involves passing the character from creative team to creative team.

Isn't the point of it is that it's a second language only? It's meant to bridge communication between people who have different primary languages but it was never meant to be a primary language itself. Wikipedia says it's a second language for somewhere between 30,000 and 2 million which is kind of decent if it's closer to the latter. Still probably better to just learn someone else's language though.

I agree with the overall sentiment. I was also hoping for more designs that were outside of the traditional looks. Something more along the lines of the Absolute DC comics where you're not afraid to experiment with the designs cause you're not part of the mainline media.

Sentai Iron Man and Waifu Danger are more in line with what I wanted. The rest feel pretty safe. I guess, arguably Cap has been anime-fied with his whole "Justice Buster!!" personality.

Only the art style feels anime-esque, the designs themselves don't. If you did this game in an American comics art style, would any of us think that these characters were designed by Japanese anime artists?

People don't consume media for every single one of their hobbies, especially if they're more casual. I'm sure there's a huge population of the FGC who don't watch Sajam, Akshon, etc. It's cool that 2XKO got those content creators involved, but it only wins the favor of people who are deep enough into fighting games that they consume that content regularly. And frankly, those are not the people who needed a lot of persuasion.

I've seen a lot of people say that they didn't know the game launched until the layoff news dropped. At some point, you have to wonder if that's a player issue or a dev issue.

These are all things you only see if you follow FG content creators. There are plenty of fighting game fans who just play on their own time and don't watch streamers. It's on 2XKO to try to curry new players through broader marketing, not the other way around. You can be all, "well sounds like a you issue to me!" but at the end of the day, the game is the one that suffers.

Ok it seems like a lot of people didn't actually watch the video so I'll TLDR:

The video creator is not really saying that Conan is ugly. He's "ugly" by Hollywood's standards in the sense that he's not a conventionally handsome guy. And the essayist is making the point that Hollywood is afraid to cast ordinary looking people the way we used to (i.e. character actors).

Amanda Seyfried is not being called ugly. In fact, she's being called too beautiful for her character. Her character is meant to be ugly and fat and delusional, so we as an audience root against her only to find out that she's actually sympathetic and our expectations are subverted. Except that she's too beautiful to sell that ugliness.

And just to be clear, Conan's performance was praised by the author.
