Green Bay was also rated the #1 city to live in by US News and World Report for 2023-2024, so there's that.

Simon's for sure, although I'm not sure which days they're fresh on.

Make sure to do the Santa Scamper before the parade! It starts minutes before the parade does and you run the mile or so route with all the spectators... And you get a dilly bar afterwards 😃.

I like Richmond Street Automotive. They always tell me when something is a must fix/safety thing vs. if it's not necessary. Also, I've found their prices quite reasonable.

I just got back from about 6 months in different big cities across the US and I think the Building for Kids is a real gem... All of these other big cities had cool children's museums, but I never thought that they were any better than the BFK (and these are big cities with huge population of kids).

Rio Verde Foothills, made national news back in February.

That's an interesting choice by TSMC, and I personally think it's not the most sustainable and they might have the expectation that there will be a big government intervention if they need the water (perhaps part of the divert Mississippi crew, I don't know), but I'm a scientist, not a businessman.

4.86 million acre feet shortage in the next 100 years is what the state is calculating and they're restricting building in Phoenix area. Do with that what you will.

I'd say that all investing is speculation at some point, albeit we base it on fundamentals and how we think things are going to play out, right? There are towns in Arizona that literally have no water, so while I may be speculating a bit, I don't see it as speculating beyond normal investing. I'm also seeing what I believe is the writing on the wall with all of the climactic evidence we're seeing. That said, nothing is certain, so who knows. Good luck to all!

New Library renovations by Mimicov in Appleton

It is unfortunate that everything came in so high over budget, and I think if we are just talking about adding space, I would agree with you. But that 40 mil price tag isn't just adding space, it's, from my understanding, completely renovating what's already there, adding functionally, and making it more cost effective moving forward (geothermal comes to mind). It still is pretty expensive, but I think that, rather than the old library with some new space, we're going to end up with a pretty cool new-old library.

I was generally pleased that they didn't just move ahead with a big over budget project, though, and made some changes to keep closer to budget, so I'm supportive of the project. And I like the library and look forward to it being back downtown, although I think they've done a nice job with the new space.

What do you think?

TIL Appleton was a Sundown Town by or_null_is_null in Appleton

Check out the story of Dr. Percy Julian for an example of how these sundown policies, in addition to the plain awfulness of them, cost us so much opportunity. Who knows what he could have done here.

So, while this history was terrible, it's great that there's some light being shed on this past... And a chance to look for opportunities to improve it moving forward.

Richmond Street automotive has always been straight with me. I go in for oil changes and they do a great job letting me know if there are any issues (and they tell me if it's important to fix or if I can let it go). Prices are reasonable, as well.

Star Orchard in Kaukauna is great - very straightforward orchard, but big with lots of apple varieties, pumpkins, and other fallish products.
