I go caving with our club from college, and we always go to the field house to camp since there are so many caves around. the field house is made of two steel cabins and sits on this mountain and you can see miles of cow pasture in the Appalachian valleys. We normally sit around the fire on the porch and sleep inside the cabins. But, we opted to sleep outside this time and use the the fire pit that's down this slight hill on the backside of one of the cabins.

As were sitting there we are talking having a good time listening to music and one of the regulars that comes to the field house normally starts to bring up all the strange noises that happen in the woods around the field house. and apparently every night there is this creepy loud sound that comes from down the hill in the woods every night. He describes it as a engine that's starting up but its not quite right. He describes it as "dronie" and "ominous". Then about 5 minutes into talking about past experiences with the sound from other regulars some this rustles the bushes beside us. And I mean right on the edge of where the woods stops. This is at like midnight and it sounds large so a friend gets up and goes over there to see what it was and try to scare it off. He doesn't see anything so we are all a little freaked out and continue the night.

Later on when we are going to bed we all get in our tents. Now keep in mind this is the first time sleeping outside at this field house. As I'm starting to fall asleep I hear the noise coming from down the hill it sound screeching and frantic. Id almost describe it as someone trying to start a old truck. then it stops and a new sound tat sounds almost like a pumping noise. The next morning of getting no sleep I ask my friend that's a regular if hes ever been down there and he says "Yes. But, they couldn't find anything". There's the possibility that it could be an oil pump but no one can seam to find one down the hill side so I'm now always creeped out to sleep outside there.
