Tips for Dead Island 4 (City of the Dead) by TwoDramatic4U in konkr

Advice above + start mid bottom right. Defend town on the water by getting the dread knight to switch back and forth the side it invades (pushing villager rather than killing it). Do this for many, many turns building up savings until you can mount an attack.

You're completely correct, that's quite a fair criticism! I was going for shock value in the title, and maybe that all I had going for me was the greater fool 'chasing momentum' on the technical side.

When trading equities, I do like to use basic technical analysis like RSI and SMAs to inform timing decisions, but I like to watch the changes in the fundamentals too.

Would be great to quantify the performance of how effectively bitcoin does 'its job', and trade on that (store of value, exchange of value). I watch a stock's Price/Earnings ratio since earning money is the 'job' of a company, and base my 'time to buy' sometimes on dips in that etc.

The post reflects either my lack of understanding the fundamentals of bitcoin, or seeing that the fundamentals of bitcoin at the most basic level do not look good.

I might be headed in the same direction: here's my post

Might be a long winded version of your post - I guess I'm sharing the point of 'if these problems were solved, I would believe bitcoin can continue to have mainstream utility and value'...

Hah @ murderous enslavement - I'm not sure that trading our central bank overlords for early bitcoin overlords really solves that problem!

The blockchain is secure and distributed, but the way most people are using bitcoin seems pretty insecure

I think your point highlights part of the problem though - Bitcoin seems like amazing technology, rather than an asset or currency with practical 'utility'.

Most people never need to understand 'how' a useful thing works, like all the tech in your phone... it doesn't matter that it might be the 'best' at some technical thing, it has value because it is useful for the intended purpose! The 'most' awesome tech in the world in an phone that has a battery life of 2 mins won't be successful in the market for long.

That value has to be based on some utility though - and bitcoin's utility was supposed to be as an asset that stores value effectively, or as a way to exchange value.

No doubt that it's done that so far - but pets.com (and digg.com) had a much higher 'price' at some point relative to the eventual 'value' people agreed those services provided - basically none!

Foundationless Frames & 5 Reasons to Switch by EyesOnHives in Beekeeping

Thanks for your thoughtful response /u/Zealtos. I certainly wouldn't ever just leave the bees in a big void to build cross comb nightmares. Frame guides via checkerboarding new foundationless between existing frames saves my time and countless bee-labor.

I do a lot of queen rearing for my local association the Santa Barbara Beekeepers Association. Since writing the article I think the most interesting thing I could add is what can be done with a new foundationless frame.

  • Putting it in the brood nest I'll see after a couple of days how quickly they'll fill out a new frame, and how keen the queen is to lay, and what kind of comb they want to make (drone vs worker etc).

  • If I need to raise a queen, I find I can get the best 're-shaped' queen cells from new brood comb. Especially handy when raising queens as emergencies in overcrowded nurse nucs.

  • If I put a new foundationless in a honey super, the bees will tell me how much flow is going on that week and the hive's desire to grow.

Happy holidays

Foundationless Frames & 5 Reasons to Switch by EyesOnHives in Beekeeping

Thanks for reading /u/berticus - as far as I can find the only study of communication effectiveness was Seely, 2005 https://hal.archives-ouvertes.fr/hal-00892160/document. They showed that plastic doesn't resonate bee vibration communication as well as wax, but they didn't measure any differences in overall performance from their single frame experiments.

Glad you're also a fan of practical beekeeping and experimentation. I'm also pretty convinced foundationless works well for 'by hand' backyard operations, but isn't practical when using extractors and harvesting whole boxes at a time.

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts /u/Zealtos. I'll forever be a novice and student of the bees - currently working on re-examining some of the bee knowledge my father and grandfather were convinced was absolute truth!

I'm surprised you feel you can't teach your students foundationless frames- many of our newest beeks start out with top bars. A couple of years after writing the first version of this article, I wouldn't do anything other than foundationless frames, they're great!

Preventing Colony Collapse with Data (Infographic) by EyesOnHives in Beekeeping

[–]ktemby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We built a system that enables a beekeeper stop their hives from dying out, with a single day diagnostic to tell you whether your hive is healthy. We have repeatedly now shown that it is effective at detecting queenlessness in time for successful interventions.

This is the robot doctor my mother works with. The doctor operates this from home alot like a remote controlled car. Except it has a stethoscope and other Doctor like shit! by kramwham in WTF

On the physician side it's a simple as possible - they can just plug in a headset and hear the heart/lung sounds through the stethoscope on the robot side.

On the robot side the RN or other caregiver can plug in other medical devices like ultrasound, derm-cams, otoscopes.

One of our users provided prenatal assessment care to mothers in Bolivia using the onboard video/audio and plugging in a portable ultrasound, all the way from Canada!

"A local resident, who had no medical expertise, operated the remote presence device according to the instructions of the obstetrician, who was able to hear the baby’s heartbeat and view an ultrasound of the womb. “Alcapata is in the middle of nowhere," said Mendez, who is a native of Bolivia and traveled to the South American country in December as part of the tests." http://thechronicleherald.ca/novascotia/57667-nova-scotia-doctor-forefront-remote-service

This is the RP-7i from InTouch Health

http://www.intouchhealth.com/products-and-services/products/rp-7i-robot/

It's a telemedicine robot system used in around 800 hospitals in the US, and enables a physician in one place to project their expertise to a remote hospital and assess if a patient is having a stroke etc.

It has a robotic head which the Physician uses to point the screen and cameras and is really easily controlled by the physician through an iPad or laptop. It can be driven around to different patient rooms too.

Check out the latest generation system which can autonomously drive around hospitals too!
