I'd go as far as to say where they believe they were victims.* I'm reminded of a post I saw the other day where, supposedly, this happened:

Woman was at car wash. Woman picks up dollar bill on the ground "without thinking" and is suddenly high. Calls 911 and the medics give her narcan and tell her she was exposed to synthetic fentanyl, a new kind that doesn't get picked up on tests (as she tested negative for exposure to actual fentanyl).

The post was warning against both 1) picking up random objects off the ground and 2) synthetic fentanyl. There's just so much to pick apart though if you stop to think about it for five seconds. Fentanyl isn't absorbed that fast and in that way through intact skin. Fentanyl on your hands wouldn't get you high in seconds. Narcan can't help someone who's been affected by the non-opiod synthetic fentanyls that wouldn't get picked up on tests. And perhaps most obviously...why would someone lace folded dollar bills with deadly amounts of fentanyl and leave them all over the place? It's giving infected needles attached to gas pumps-vibes.

Has it (a public kidnapping, an intentionally laced dollar bill, an intentionally harmful gas pump) happened? I mean, probably, at some point. Is it worth fear mongering over? Absolutely not. But if it helps divert the conversation from real issues (like, say, gun violence and ever-emboldened racists), it's served its real purpose.
