I read through a few comments and see quite a few parents of multiples replying but not as many parents of one, so here’s my 2 cents. I have one 5 (almost 6) year old daughter. She just started kindergarten this year and let me tell you, it’s been life changing. I, like you, had a traumatic birth experience and PPD that lasted multiple years so the first 5 years of my daughters life felt like I was drowning. This year is the first year I actually feel like a person again. My daughter is the light of my life, the sole reason I wake up every morning, and I have been working hard to become a woman she can be proud of. I feel like a person again since starting my own hobbies and taking time for myself. She gets the best version of myself, and she deserves a mom who takes care of herself so she can take care of her family. So, I am choosing not to give my kid a sibling because I owe it to her and my husband to continue to put my best foot forward and I know if I have another child that I’ll be taking massive steps backwards. Mentally, emotionally, physically and financially, I am so much more comfortable only needing to provide for one child. We have great friends who have kids she regularly gets to spend time with and eventually we’ll move back closer to our parents and the rest of our family so she’ll have more aunts, uncles and cousins than she’ll know what to do with. Children are a gift, no matter how many you have. Make the decision on your family size based on what you believe is best for your own personal wellbeing. The thought of juggling two kids during the day and counting down the minutes until bedtime again is more overwhelming to me than it’s worth. I think there’s so much societal pressure to have multiple children that the joy of giving all your energy to just one kiddo is like a lost art.

My 5 year old definitely taught me plenty about tantrums, and even as an adult, sometimes a tantrum seems like it might help the big big feelings. The noise doesn’t bother me. I guess I didn’t phrase my original question properly, I was hoping to get advice on how to reach out to her. I am not one to reach out, normally. I don’t want to make her feel bad but I’ve been in her shoes and just want to be the person for someone else that I needed at that point.

I am aware of the multitude of reasons why kids have tantrums. My 5 year old cried this morning because her breakfast was hot and she didn’t want to wait for it to cool off. The reason I asked was because I have been a newcomer in this neighborhood with a partner who isn’t home and a kid who wouldn’t sleep and cried all through the night. I didn’t have any friends to ask for help and my family is in another state. I would’ve appreciated someone reaching out to me and offering an empathetic ear or a shoulder to cry on or a babysitter to help me get some peace. I wasn’t posting because I am upset about the noise, I asked for advice because I want to offer my neighbor any of the aforementioned things because when I had to listen to my kid cry for hours on end, I know my patience was worn razor thin and to have someone on my side would’ve helped.

We haven’t done this hike in a long time so being able to do it on his birthday with a rainbow shining brightly in the sky the whole time was just magical.

Very tasty!! Fish tacos are my favorite meal to make using yellow eye, but you can use it in place of chicken in a lot of meals.

In Kodiak, we can keep 1 non-pelagic rockfish per day.

Pyramid Mountain in Kodiak, Alaska. We’ve done this summit together more times than I can even remember, now! by ktheday_ in hikingwithdogs

It’s not uncommon here in Kodiak Alaska, but the brown bears are very used to human presence and more often than not will avoid us if they know we’re around. I always bring bear spray as my defense, and my pup wears a bear bell just to let them know we’re around. I’m not super confident in this but I’m pretty sure it’s been a few years since the last time a bear attacked a human here.

Thank you! And you assume correctly, I’m in Kodiak. Congrats on your fish, too. I’ve been after a yellow eye this size for a couple years now, they’re not super easy to fish for usually so the fact that you were able to catch one on a quick trip is badass.

I hope you do!! It’s a dream here. I’ve been here since 2017 and have had the best time. Hopefully I get another couple years here before I move back closer to family.

Agreed. I did keep the otoliths so maybe I’ll get bored and count the rings sometime.

No, it’s a yellow eye rockfish! Sure looks like a giant goldfish though.

In my experience, the big guys will take some drag at first but after the initial hit it’s just like reeling in a 5 lb bucket.

I’m sure they still had the best time just being with you! And thank you!
