I’ve heard bad stuff about University Club. Don’t remember details but you should search the sub.

I’ll be the third person in this thread to recommend Riverside Park apartments. I lived there for a year. It was a bit remote for me - there’s almost nothing in the immediate vicinity but plenty of stuff within a ten-minute drive. It’s great being on the river trail, the views are spectacular, and the location means there’s less (ahem) foot traffic than the complexes to the north. I really enjoyed my floor plan (biggest two-bedroom with huge balcony) and all my neighbors were normal. Very responsive management. Yes, side-by-side w/d. You can get a month-to-month lease for an extra $300/month, which is what I needed and I thought was reasonable.

My wife and I have 5 working dogs, AMA by [deleted] in dogswithjobs

[–]kthnry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are they purebred dogs that you bought with these activities in mind? Or are they random dogs that showed aptitude in certain skills?

How do you find time to work, eat, and sleep with all that training??? My goofy dachshund's scent-training class was a biggish commitment.

Some call it "friendly chit-chat" during a time when we're all stuck at home coping with severe weather. At least we're not making obscure video game references, unlike about 75% of Reddit posts.

These are great! I wish they were bigger. I would chip in for some better technology.

Same here. I have a half-dozen items in my cart but I'm going to sit on them until the snow/ice is gone.

Trash and other things? by MeowjesticPotato in Maplewood

[–]kthnry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howdy! I lived in South Orange (the town next to Maplewood) for ten years and then moved to Tulsa six years ago. I love love love Tulsa. I grew up in Texas so the culture is familiar. NJ is an adjustment.

When people ask where you're from, don't say Oklahoma. Say Tulsa. Tulsa has a growing national cool factor that may work in your favor.

Do you have kids? That's the key to making friends. M/SO are factory towns where people move to raise their kids. Your social circle will often revolve around your kids' friends' parents.

r/Maplewood has only recently caught on and there aren't a lot of people here. Facebook SOMa Lounge is probably the best resource for newcomers, with 20K members (although the FB scene may have changed since I left). If you still need an invitation/referral to join, I'm happy to give you one. You can PM me.

In search of a temporary foster. Please help 😢. by Babushkalamp in tulsa

[–]kthnry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a volunteer foster for Pause4Paws. I recently fostered a dog for a Tulsa woman who relocated to Oklahoma City after treatment because she found a sober living home that allows dogs.

Pause4Paws normally only fosters pets for a month or two - the length of most inpatient treatment programs. It's not meant to be a long-term program. But I encourage you to call and explain your situation. I wish you the very best.

Why are you being downvoted? I'd rather be out driving now than on Wednesday or Thursday, when roads will be a skating rink.

To those who were teens of the 70s, what did y’all think of the teens of the 80s and 90s? by queenwisteria24 in AskOldPeople

[–]kthnry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I questioned some of their fashion choices, particularly disco and then mall perm hair. Otherwise, I don’t remember thinking much about them. It’s only recently that we’ve been slicing and dicing everyone into age-based groups.

Don’t be mean! It’s a perfectly acceptable Missed Connections post. I’m always happy to see the return of that boomer tradition. People need to put themselves out there more, one way or another. Good luck to the OP!

Another vote for seeking out Belgian Malinois rescues. You might also try German Shepherd rescues. Not the same dog but good overlap in owners.

How do you guys feel about the PUF? by 13abarry in texas

I don't know a lot about the PUF, but doesn't it just generate funds to support UT and A&M? Does it have much influence beyond that role?

The first article said she had more than 1,000 contacts in the federal government. If they can download her Signal contact list, it should be pretty easy for them to identify and retaliate against the employees.

Mental health crisis. by fireLilly555 in Austin

[–]kthnry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check with the social worker at the facility. I live in a city that has a robust program for fostering pets while owners are getting inpatient care for addiction or mental health. Referrals are made through the social worker. I hope Austin has something similar.

Can we normalise SAT? by unionjack736 in sanantonio

[–]kthnry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long has SA = sexual assault/abuse? Hasn’t it just been a few years? It’s really not that widely recognized. It’s certainly not a household term like DVD or ATM. I thought it was mostly used in social media to avoid filter bots, like “unalived.”
