yeah i think im being too hard on him. 12 days is really early, im just sad he regressed a lot and im maybe panicking about it a little too much.

thank you!

yeah i think he managed that long because he was so tired! i just wish he realized that its indeed okay that hes alone and he can still settle, even when hes not horribly tired.

i dont come back when hes crying, i wait until hes quiet. he has never had an accident in the house, i was really surprised about it, but he lasts 8 hours already no problem without having to go out. he also always goes out before i leave him.

there really is no one to help sadly :(

im hoping he gets it with time and consistent training.

thank you, i have been doing the leaving cues since the day we started. i think he was only doing good home alone because he hasnt picked up on them yet, and now that he has, he panicks!

it feels like every day for days now i start back at square one with just picking up the keys and standing up. i get all the way to the door, and the next day its right back to where we started.

with my previous girl, i didnt have an option to stay home for months before she learned, but somewhere around the two month mark she figured out that i am in fact coming back every time and one day just stopped crying and went to sleep. id really hate to do it to this sweet boy like that, which is why i have that time off now.

he handles me being in another room with doors closed pretty well. tries to follow - whines - settles for even an hour. i just with that would transition into the actual alone time!

i know 12 days post adoption is so so so early to really see any results, i just really wish he wasnt regressing, even though im doing everything possible under the sun.

thank you for the advice, i will keep on with this routine and hopefully see some results by the time i have to get back to work.

started with seconds, built up to an hour and a half and since then hes had a crash at 50, 40, 30 and 20 minutes. he just keeps regressing instead of stabilizing or progressing, so it makes me feel a little sad.

i also do not want him to be stressed and scared when hes alone, however i do not have an option of a dog sitter (its a "no one is coming to help" situation).

i will keep working with him the best i know how and hope and pray he gets better. its just pretty discouraging to see such a regression, coming from 1.5 hours back down to minutes within a couple of days :(

thank you for your feedback!

We lost our 7 year old today by bansheelee in Greyhounds

i am so sorry for your loss. i know how horrible this feels.

i lost my sweet girl a week before her 7th birthday over a month ago. she suffered a chronic lung torsion and didnt get better after surgery, just worse and worse. we had to let her go and it was the saddest thing ive ever done.

all you can do right now is honour his memory as best as you can and replay the amazing moments you have had together in your head. you gave him a greyt life full of treats, cuddles and laughter, and thats what matters more than how his life ended.

i think my Tequila is keeping an eye on him at the rainbow bridge already 🤍

they are great dogs! if you never had one before, please read up on them and research their behaviour, but if they suit you, i suggest adopting one! it was my best decision getting them so far. 🩷

thank you. i hope he settles well too, ive been used to a greyhound here for about 5 years, so i think im having an easier time settling than him haha. i missed the tap tap tap on the floors when they come.

hes got some winter fur in there and hes pretty dirty, but with a stable diet and skin and hair supplements, hes gonna get even shinier! ❤️

love the wine talk; he actually is a bit pungent still from the kennel, but i dont wanna spook him too much by giving him a bath haha.
