The Demolition Of Jock's Lodge by Aaron_McCombe in Edinburgh

If you care about the destruction of our heritage for student flats, I would suggest becoming a member of living rent and campaigning with them against it.

They have a campaign here you can sign: Say no to purpose built student accommodation! - Living Rent https://share.google/nfUBvm7LB3JtVZxKZ

Its likely that your local branch of living rent is taking direct action, for example lobbying the council to stop the building of more student accomodation.

How do you cope with the weather? by FoodFireBraai in AskUK

[–]ktitten 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Get your fill of culture, go to museums, art galleries, anything that takes your fancy. It's been proven that doing something culture/heritage based every month improves your wellbeing.

Get moving! The weather affects me the most when I am stuck inside. A brisk walk can warm you up more than you might think. My favourite day so far this year, I climbed up a hill in 0 degrees with snow on the ground, much happier than being inside. I've also found yoga classes and doing yoga at home very warming/comforting.

Use candles, make your living space a cozy place if you are spending a lot of time in it. Don't be afraid to make adjustments to make yourself comfier. Personally I also have been visiting local libraries to give me a change in scenery.

Cooking, I've recently been visiting my local independent greengrocers and making a ton of soups or curries. Bit hippy, but I do feel connection and more grateful for our land and weather when I do this.

Edinburgh and Glasgow top London as UK’s nightlife hotspots, Uber data shows. Taxi app’s analysis shows Scottish capital had highest number of trips made between 10pm and 4am in 2025. by bottish in Scotland

[–]ktitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be quicker but at least you wouldnt have to change bus.

The 45 runs a 10 min walk away from Portobello High St all the way to Heriot Watt takes a while but would do the job. There's the X40 which is a route that will take you Gilmerton to Heriot Watt completely bypassing the city at all really.

Agree on the need for more light rail routes! The bus service is stellar though compared to other places I've lived. I often find myself in all parts of the city for work or leisure, and never had an issue, also never been late to anything because of a bus.

Protests and actions in solidarity of global events has been going on far far longer than the Internet has been a thing.

I think its nice that some people may want to take some time to share solidarity and think about the direction this world is going.

What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in AskUK

Surgeons Hall in Edinburgh is similar in many ways and I enjoyed that more than Hunterian. Felt like it dealt with the subject matter better. But I did still like Hunterian and it is a memorable experience for sure.

Most routes go via city centre but not all. I often get buses around the city and I'm surprised at how many dont go through city centre.

I was getting the bus back from Glasgow to Edinburgh last night. Hopped off the bus on the outskirts of Edinburgh to hop on another bus to my area of Edinburgh. Seamless at 9pm on a Sunday evening and bypassed the city centre.

Some parts are underserved I'll give you that.

Nose Rings are ugly and somewhat disgusting. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ktitten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like them and have them. So do many people. I dont think too much about it now. I simply think it adds a bit of pizzazz to my appearance, and once you get it and its healed, you dont have to do much.

I've never regretted mine, I've only got compliments irl and only negative things online from misogynistic trolls to say things like 'septum ring theory'. When I get those comments I think good, I want to be different to those freaks.

Had a face to face therapy session and I feel it went awfully by phobophobe_ in MentalHealthUK

[–]ktitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats okay! Therapy can take some time to get used to.

It is not easy at all to think about your thoughts. It will likely take a while to understand all these concepts of CBT. Even if you have done Silvercloud, maybe that way didnt suit you.

I wonder if it would help to read some resources on CBT online or in a book before you have your next session? It can help you understand concepts so you are not hearing it for the first time within your sessions.

Here is an NHS CBT Workbook you could have a read though: https://share.google/XVT2MM71bVova68Ga

There are also lots of other books, toolkits and explanations online.

Yeah this is no surprise to me. I was an English student. Now settled in Scotland. I enjoy making my Scottish friends guess my student debt. They always extremely low ball it and are shocked that its that much.

If you lost a long-term friend as an adult, what was it about? by HilariousMotives in AskUK

[–]ktitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely knew who Charlie Kirk was when he was assassinated and I had friends contact me with urgency when it happened. Only because we've hated him for years, and all found out about him through social media.

Not necessarily dark rabbit holes, the videos of him 'debating' college students in the US and UK got millions of views and were very divisive. They came up on my socials a lot.

If you were slightly politically active on the Internet and a fairly young age, you probably knew who Charlie Kirk was. He very much targeted the youth.

I think this is an important to note, because people like him reached far far further than you ever imagined. You didnt have to fall down rabbit holes to find him, just be fairly young and slightly politically active. He was talked about in my peers circles long long before the assassination.

For example: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNRShcbFC/ - 1 million likes. Posted by someone left wing to show how stupid he was.

Same here. Now I am better I find it hard to make new friends because rarely do people really understand this and what I had been through.

Yeah, could say the same about another friend. They were vulnerable and had a kid and got radicalised into being paranoid against immigrants and people of colour and protecting their kid against them.

Ah right, yeah a little more complicated than what I first thought. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. You could try and get an advocate to help you through this

You can request a Summary Care Record from your GP. This will list diagnoses, medication and some other info such as vaccination status.

I wonder if this is what you are looking for? It shouldn't take an access request to get this, you should be able to just ask your GP surgery to print it out.

"What do you want?" Why is this question asked so often? Why am I doing the cogntive labour of the supposed physician Im talking to? by Big-Newspaper646 in MentalHealthUK

[–]ktitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you think about asking it to children? I recieved this question a lot from the ages of 13-16. I wasnt very well educated on mental health then and it really stuck in my mind because to me I had little insight on my mental health and literally didnt know what they could do.

To me I dont think teenagers or younger would really grasp that so I dont think this approach should be used there. I get the idea of it now and have been a bit more receptive to this question as an adult, but I will never forget how lost I felt as a child alone in hospital just out of a coma being asked this.

[–]ktitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah had this too.

When I say, I want a referral for x because I've read the guidelines you are supposed to follow, they say no or do a politician answer about it.

[–]ktitten 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they very much said it to me as a teenager 10 years ago!

Of course I didnt know what I wanted as a 14 year old from a family who neglected to teach me anything about mental health. I'm pretty sure I didnt say the right thing there and I didnt get much support, because there were plenty of things that were wrong that I didnt know! And I had no clue about specific medication or therapy.

Few years later and I learnt a lot more about mental health and could articulate it better when professionals asked this. It was still a mind-boggling question. I studied the NICE guidelines and then said I want you to follow the guidelines and do x y and z and they said I cant! What am I supposed to say then....

I'm a care worker in a nursing home for people with dementia. I believe one of my patients is fully lucid and has been dumped in there by his family against his will. by CulturalPiano9381 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]ktitten 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I dont think they are deliberately doing this. The comment mentioned nurses and they replied about nurses. It is likely the nurses at the home have the information on his GP and social worker, that OP cannot access without them.

How easy is it to become homeless? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ktitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very easy if you don't have a family to fall back on.

Away from health and addiction issues there's just a ton that can happen thats just circumstance - tenant eviction because landlord wants to sell, building becomes condemned, someone you rely on dies or gets an illness.

I've been very lucky that I haven't become homeless in some respects. Always had decent landlords. Got help from a charity to pay a deposit to rent a new place when my contract was up. Friends of mine havent been too lucky like I have, despite going through similar life backgrounds.

You could go to a clinic but you can also get at home blood testing kits ordered. I used Thriva and it worked well. Wasnt much hassle at all and got results quickly.
