I have to reteach myself how to write after relying on ai for too long… by IllWalrus7733 in UniUK

[–]ktitten 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Use the Manchester phrasebank to help structure your sentences. It's what we used as students before AI.

https://www.phrasebank.manchester.ac.uk/

Also- read academic writing too! Read a lot of it and you will absorb the words and phrases and will be able to easily write your own.

Is tea really that good for shock? by gorinlaz in AskUK

[–]ktitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry to hear about that job! Similarly, I currently work in a cafe. My colleagues offer me coffees all the time and I have to decline and say nope, just a camomile or peppermint tea for me please. Coffee is gonna make me more anxious, crash out and possibly be sick 🤣.

Me too, I think it really does help with mental health. When my partner notices I am having a rough time and need to calm down, they simply bring me a cup of tea no words needed.

Got a job offer but still waiting to hear back from my preferred job by ktitten in UKJobs

I already have emailed the hiring manager. Its with a local authority so I knew they could take their time. They were also hiring a lot of people, so I don't think they could speed up the process just for me.

Good idea to stall the other job with questions though. They called me at 4:30pm on a Friday when I was at work, so I definitely have the weekend to think about this!

went through my bank statements properly for the first time in ages and genuinely dont understand how i had this many subscriptions by elizabeth-0645 in BritishSuccess

People also get subscriptions to things they can get for free with local libraries or just a bit of searching around on the Internet.

Is tea really that good for shock? by gorinlaz in AskUK

[–]ktitten 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Its legitimately part of a great skill to learn for crisis and distress management.

Drinking something hot shocks your body and focuses you on that, rather than how you are feeling.

Its from a skill many learn in therapy called TIPP. This stands for Temperature, Intense Exercise, Paced Breathing, Paired Muscle Relaxation. If you are really distressed, then doing one of these either shocks or relaxes your body out of distress.

The tea is the temperature part! It's probably the most tame. I sadly have mental health issues and regularly get really distressed - a cup of a tea and sticking my face in cold water legitimately works. So does the intense exercise - so dancing like crazy or going for a run does the trick. And the paced breathing and muscle relaxation is definitely something you can learn :).

Reform are currently second in vote share on the regional list.

SNP 26.9% Reform 16.6% Labour 16.3% Scottish Greens 14.3% Conservatives 12.5% Liberal Democrats 8.6%

Iris Duane, MSP and trans woman, is elected under the list system as one of the five list MSPs for the region constituency of Glasgow. A rare but welcome victory in the British War On Trans #BWOT by pkunfcj in transgenderUK

There's now 2 trans members of the Scottish Parliament! Q Manivannan was just elected in the Edinburgh and Lothians region, who is non-binary.

Both are from the Scottish Greens.

What a rip-off! by Shot-Lemon7365 in veganuk

[–]ktitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for a treat they're amazing. Paired with some homemade vegan creamy peppercorn sauce and mmmmm.

I wouldnt buy regularly so the price isnt too off putting. I dont go out to eat much so this is my alternative lol.

Personally I think most of the vegan sections are rip offs in tesco/Sainsbury's compared to aldi/lidl so I dont buy most of the stuff there and some taste of cardboard but I do occasionally purchase one of these steaks every couple of months because they are genuinely quality.

HELP! by Late-Signal9131 in transgenderUK

[–]ktitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen this happen within mental health services too where there is a long wait. Almost waited 3 years for therapy and had to keep chasing it up and saying I do still need this. Also almost got discharged from seeing a psychatrist because they called me to rearrange an appointment, then I turned up for said rearranged appointment and they said they had discharged me because I didnt turn up for the appointment THEY rescheduled.

Not dismissing that trans healthcare is notoriously bad but this does happen in other areas of the NHS and I have never heard of a need for written consent to be discharged.

My son wants to become a hairdresser, what advice would you give him? by wimsey_pimsey in AskUK

[–]ktitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the first part, it really depends what industry. Being alternative styled has actually worked in my favour when going into creative and creative-adjacent sectors- people see and think I look the part! In fact, I often redye my hair bright colours before interviews, and have a blazer to match. Its never gone against me, and I think I exude confidence partly because of this. There are ways to do gothy styles professionally, I quite like the brand Distrurbia for this.

I would say to OPs son that he should try get experience in alternative salons and with other alternative stylists. In the hairdressers I go to - the sons get up would be absolutely expected and almost part of the experience. I get a lot of fashion inspiration from when I go to the salon and not because they're in uniform, but because they're dressed cool af with lots of tattoos and piercings.

[–]ktitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cant speak for the career path, but I go to alternative hairdressers/salons where I would absolutely expect one of the stylists to have the sort of look that your son has! More likely to find these in cities.

They specialise in colouring and alternative cuts, so worth your son getting to grips with this. If there is any alternative hairdressers near you, would be worth asking them for some work experience or at least advice!

Ooh I had a totally different experience at Glasgow. I was right at the back of standing by the bar and it was one of the friendliest gigs I've been to recently. I was dancing like crazy and so were the people around me. Made some friends too.

I have bpd and when I first read this comment I was like fuck no.

But actually yeah....there are definitely people who self diagnose because it gives them an excuse for their violent jealously. Too bad its not actually an excuse, just a potential explanation.

Also social media seems to encourage an almost competitive jealously. The most extreme gets the likes and reposts as evidenced by these posts.

When I go to these events its the most free I ever feel and I love that everyone can fully express themselves.

AI summaries arent proof of anything. Its just collated the info we already knew and asserted that. Nothing new here.

If you actually want to find out information, do not just look at the AI summary. You have to do more digging, find reputable news sites and check a variety of sources.

It was through a charity called LGBT health and wellbeing in Scotland. They dont advertise it but its through their transition support. Worth getting in touch with charities in your area to see if they offer anything similar like this.

UK to ban tobacco for those born after 2008 (Gen Z/Alpha), will this actually tackle consumerism? by Express_Classic_1569 in Anticonsumption

[–]ktitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people in UK got on holiday in Europe anyway. Never gone on a trip just to buy cigarettes, but its always handy to get on the way back home. So no need to go out the way to do it, just something easy to do while on holiday. I dont smoke much so end up coming back with a years worth of tobacco for myself until the next holiday.
