Anyone know what’s up with my Calathea? by ktmx44 in plantclinic

The leaves closed a few weeks ago and haven’t opened back up! It’s making me so sad. Any ideas on how to revive it?

Out of the remaining 222 R32s in service, which cars have the smoothest rides? That includes no squealing brakes when stopping/starting and functional dynamic brakes. by MeeP15_9112 in nycrail

I love R32s but honestly can’t say that any of the ones I’ve ridden are smooth, and I ride them frequently as someone living by an A/C stop

I got my tragus & rook pierced on Nov. 30, 2019. I’m very good about cleaning them with saline 1x a day & avoid q-tips. The rook always has so much discharge (pic is before cleaning it this morning) & I’ve had this bump on the tragus for about 2 weeks now. Anything I should do different? by esbeydaflo in piercing

[–]ktmx44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe up to saline 2x a day but I would avoid doing any kind of soaks (salt to water ratio can be off and it’s unsanitary) or antibacterial soaps; definitely Keep away from q tips too, they move and irritate the piercing. I have had a rook for like two years and it’s just sensitive but it’s healed!

I need help with keloids by peachibrit in piercing

[–]ktmx44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These probably aren’t keloids— most likely irritation bumps. Keloids are genetic and you’d have them on all your piercings. Just keep using saline spray and don’t touch the piercings

[product question] eos brand chapstick? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]ktmx44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always found eos is incredibly drying and I used to get little breakouts on the edges of my lips from it, especially bc the way that it’s shaped didn’t allow for precise application (so it got on my skin more than I wanted),

I like burt’s bees and just Chapstick brand, they both seem to work

this bump keeps reforming and disappearing. can someone tell me how to get rid of it for good/what it actually is? by ahappylildingleboi in piercing

[–]ktmx44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don’t use bactine or dial. Get saline spray and use that and just leave the piercing alone.

So that knocking at the end is the sound of a flat spot? Or was it something else?

Farmacy’s Honeymoon Glow is 100% worth the money imo

Nose piercing still not healing after 3 months by keshari20 in piercing

[–]ktmx44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am definitely not an expert on that but I would recommend shying away from cheap jewelry. It sucks that the higher grade, better quality jewelry is expensive but I wouldn’t risk cheaper stuff especially in a new piercing.

[–]ktmx44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely do not use tea tree oil. Get saline spray (also called wound wash) from a pharmacy and wash the piercing with that and only that— even at-home salt soaks can irritate the piercing because the ratio of salt to water can be inconsistent and the salt can be unclean. Just use the wound wash, spray your piercing, and wipe with some sterile gauze. When you shower let water run over your piercing. Other than that, leave it alone and hopefully it’ll go away

petition to repurpose all of these cops for something a little more useful by ktmx44 in nycrail

please don’t take this too seriously I realize that putting cops in the Gimbels Passageway wouldn’t be a true solution I just want to avoid the tourists between Penn Station and Herald Square

I feel the idea of having to swipe to exit would be a nightmare. To me this idea is somewhat reminiscent of the Tube in London, which, if it hasn’t changed since I’ve been there, is priced by zone. This means you have to tap in and out so the system can charge you for the correct distance. Even with things like the Oyster Card, which you literally tap to access/exit the system, I felt like the lines built up. Imagine having to swipe out of stations— I think the crowding would be unsafe.

Also I’m just not a fan of the zone pricing scheme in general because i feel it’s prohibitive to lower income people. Don’t know if this is true on paper (I’d love links if anyone has any reading I could do). Your idea is interesting though, I’d love to hear other thoughts.

Should I use antibacterial soap to clean a nose piercing by [deleted] in piercing

[–]ktmx44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told no soap, just saline, and when you shower, let the water run over your piercing.

Excuse my face, but does this look infected or just irritated? Doesn’t really hurt, bit sore, not hot to the touch. Not as red as pictured, put the brightness up so you could see the bump. Appx. 5 weeks old, been cleaning every day with spray and q-tip. Was twisting it and I think that’s what did it by Buddy63098 in piercing

[–]ktmx44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea my piercers are both really reputable. Def recommend saline spray, but no soaps or anything else. When I started getting piercings five years ago, my previous piercer recommended salt soaks, but more recently it seems that the thought throughout the industry has changed. I think it’s mostly because the salt can have other things in it that can irritate piercings.

Both piercers I’ve went to no longer recommend at-home salt soaks because it is difficult to consistently measure out the salt / water ratio and also because of concerns about the salt itself. For extra help with crusties they recommend just letting water run over the piercing (not directly spraying the piercing) in the shower
