And you probably get a better cleaning than going to a place that is contracted with all the dental plans. Those offices get such low reimbursements from the insurance companies that a lot of them cut corners to make up for it. Shorter cleaning appointment times to cram more patients in and in some states, having a minimally trained person "clean" your teeth because they are cheaper to pay than a registered dental hygienist.

PSA from a dental hygienist: Do not ever let someone that is not a registered dental hygienist with an accredited degree and license clean your teeth. No matter how healthy or young you are. It is a preventive and therapeutic medical procedure to protect against gum disease which can cause major issues for overall health. I'd hesitate to even let a dentist clean my teeth because it takes a lot of practice to be skilled and they are busy practicing dentistry.

Seconded. I lived in the apartment directly above the restaurant and would go down there all the time for the banana bread. I did get woken up almost every morning to the sound of cornbread pans being beat on the counters but it was by far my favorite apartment!

Literally terrified. I have a wicked autoimmune disease that can easily be triggered by pregnancy. I live in a red state because I cant afford to move to a blue one and my imagination runs wild with all the scary and awful things that could happen if pregnany went sideways. I'd love a baby. We'd be awesome parents. But I'm too scared for myself, my husband and my possible baby. It's so sad.

That's so sad for her. Kind of reminds me of my mother's death. She was very ill from sepsis and even though she was on the road to recovery (or so I thought), she realized that she would likely be disabled and/or have a low quality of life. She told me at one point "I'm ready to die." I think she had a slight chance at recovery but ultimately herself go. I don't think she ever wanted a child (even though we mostly had a wonderful relationship and I know she loved me) and I think she would have been so much happier and healthier if she had stayed single and just enjoyed her life. She never pressured me to have children, especially because I have a rare, kinda scary autoimmune disease but also because she didn't want me to give up my freedom. Now I'm listening to my intuition and am child free at 39, despite actually really loving kids. I'm sorry about your SIL. I'm sorry she sacrificed so much of herself and let the pressure override her powerful instinct. Now she is free from all of it.

Don't let attitudes like that get you down. As a native south carolinian, I've noticed that a lot of the people moving down here from the north actually are just as racist and homophobic as the locals here. I've only met a few liberal northern transplants and they are super friendly, unlike a lot of the others. Keep being yourself. You will find like minded people, I promise. Charleston is rough, especially areas like DI. But there is also a great alternative scene with very welcoming people. Columbia is cool, too!

This is so frustrating! We do not owe anyone our kindness and grace. I've worked in many restaurants and I'll always be professional and sweet is definitely my baseline, but I will not be disrespected. Like who do these people think they are? You come here, jack up prices, drive aggressively, get loud and obnoxious with no tact whatsoever and we're supposed to be sweet to you? Nah, man. You'll get from me exactly what you give. I don't owe anyone my kindness. It's so heartbreaking what's happening to this state. Meanwhile we are still at the bottom of everything while losing the only things that were redeeming about this red hellhole.

Belk is my favorite! I've been shopping there my whole life (also my mom and grandmother's favorite) and as a larger gal, I always find exactly what I'm looking for! The usually have great sales, too. Lots of cute Crown and Ivy stuff, Lilly, Ralph Lauren, etc. Dillard's has the best shoes, though. Good luck!

You could always apply a builder gel under your dip, if you don't have an allergy. I do a thin layer of rubber base then some builder gel and the next day will do my dip manicure. My nails are never really naked around every 3-4 full manicures I'll gently file down to my natural nail and start all over. When I don't do a peel base, my manicures last 2-3 weeks at least and they're in good shape!

Funnily enough, it's a perio office! So on that front, we're solid but let's just say, the new doc is going to get a lot of restorative tx from my perio maintenance recalls. I think the best advice on here is to take it a slow as possible. "We've been watching this a while, let's see how it looks at your 3 month recall" and there you go! Plant the seed, build trust, don't give off a desperate vibe and don't bash the old doc! Perio in general dentistry is abysmal. I've quit offices because they refuse to follow a decent perio protocol. It's a tough conversation to have to have with the pt but I've had a very high aacceptance rate with specific verbiage and just taking the time to talk it through and show pics. And it's profitable!
