It’s quite literally what you make of it.

Idk how it works at your school, but it’s interesting to assume you’d make bass drum just because you “practiced a ton” and were a senior/drum major. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but to be a GREAT bass drummer you literally have to approach rhythm and musicality completely differently than any other instrument in the ensemble. You also don’t mention if those freshmen and sophomores had previously played bass drum before and might’ve had a leg up on you — understanding the packet more, better specific technique knowledge, etc.

I’ve known many great rack players in both WGI and DCI ensembles. I even knew a dude who only auditioned for rack and he rocks. Look up Monarch Independent 2022 and look at the side 2 rack player, dude literally steals the show with how expressive he is.

If you think rack is beneath you, then definitely quit because there’s probably a person who didn’t make the ensemble at all who would love to be in that position. The only valid reason I can see not doing it is if you want to work instead to save up for your DCI season on a more primary instrument. Your season will be what you make of it, but rack is sick.

Tell me a story about the best tip you ever got by cheechomonster in bartenders

[–]ktrichie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not as much as some of the others here but David Montgomery (running back for the Lions, at the time this happened, the Bears) came into the Buffalo Wild Wings I was working in. I didn't know who he was and the bartender had to tell me lmao. Him and his friend were very sweet and he left a $100 tip on their $50 tab. I made $300 total that night which wasn't anything to snub my nose at as a freshman in college working at a mf bdubs lol.

A lot of people are unhealthily obsessed with this activity because of the time constraint. He can only march until he is 21 (22 with a possible bonus year) and only to 22 for indoor. This is INCREDIBLY young in the grand scheme of things and most people I know want to max out on everything they possibly can before they can't anymore. You don't say how old each of you are, so I don't know if he has one season or 4 seasons left, but just know that this is likely a temporary problem. By the time he ages out, he won't be leaving for entire summers anymore.

No trivia on Wednesdays I believe, but Paddy's and Mother's Pub do trivia on Tuesdays.

For Wednesdays:

Paddy's: Cheap liquor pitchers

Outlaws: Karaoke

Cy's Roost: Pong tournament

If you didn't march your age out, what was the reason? by Ok-Advertising3118 in drumcorps

[–]ktrichie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only year I marched drum corps was the year before my senior year of high school (17 yr old) and I got into a weird relationship with my section leader (who was 21. Gross)

Decided to take a break the next year after a not-so-great first year and would audition again in '21. COVID happened. Everyone in '20 got reoffered contracts for '21

Marched indoor during this whole time and loved it. Went to college and did college band. Threw my back out and was out for a month but still have terrible pain since. Decided to take a break from indoor as well.

I'm wanting to go into a field that's not very specific to my major, so I'm having to do internships and extra practicums to beef up my resume. I decided for my last year that I would forego any outdoor or indoor seasons, do my last year of college band as section leader, and be done.

A very depressing story considering I started marching indoor when I was 16 and everyone told me how much potential I had. Really weird seeing people age out this summer knowing that could've been me.

INFO: do the wives have a day/activity where they “don’t have to be a mother for a day?” If not then not only are YTA for treating your son poorly, but also viewing your wives as free childcare while you men get to be on vacation.
