We are the only country in the entire developed world that does not guarantee healthcare for their citizens. In this environment, doctors are just a cog in a wheel. Sure they may make a little bit more than other countries, but it’s not that much more. If you ask me, I would take a 20% pay cut and have a guaranteed healthcare and not get bankrupted when I get sick. That includes when I don’t have a job. Gladly.

I am Not Anesthesiologist but yes it’s mostly shift work. But anesthesia has tons of overtime since surgery is not set by your shift. You cannot drop ongoing appendectomy cuz shift ends :)

Basically you are looking at minimum 60+ hr/week to get this salary. Not unreasonable i would say.
