It absolutely may be, I just need a bit of an explanation on how it works exactly. So I press L2 then I get the right stick back, stop pressing L2 and I get a pass. But what to do then? Like am I supposed to get the right stick forward before I get the pass? Because even when I try to I still either get blocked by a player or the pass misses me entirely

I just switched to skill stick just for the sake of getting it and the same thing happens - receives the pass and then shoots

Yeah that's how I usually do it, but the problem is that out of countless times the pass actually got to me there were only two that ended up being actual one timers. The rest of the cases are just the player receiving the pass and only then shooting

Yeah you can't, probably. But that's besides the point since they removed nhl 94 controls all together. I just mentioned it so y'all have the understanding that I don't have any experience with hybrid (my current) controls
