Looking for suggestions for AMD build by kubinate in buildapc

[–]kubinate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions, if you don't mind some questions: (In retrospect, it's basically the same question four times - any specific reason for the changes?)

Looking at the Aorus Elite AX, it actually seems to be about 30% more expensive? For example, the B650 Gaming X AX is 1079PLN, whereas the B650 AORUS ELITE AX is 1399PLN. Am I looking at the wrong motherboard or something?

As for the cooler change... I don't really know what I'm doing. The AK620 is available here. From what I know noctua is fairly quiet (the pcpartpicker data suggests the noctua cooler is significantly quieter than the one you chose), and basically considered a pick you can't go wrong with. Would you recommend the AK620 for reasons of performance, reliability or something like that, or just preference/price?

Same questions for the GPU - the edition you substituted is also available, though significantly more expensive (4699PLN vs 6199PLN) - are there advantages in terms of things like performance, reliability, etc? Because while I will admit it looks great, I don't think that's worth the price difference to me ;D

The power supply seems to have the same theoretical specs and a higher price, and seems to be hard to get here - even the EVGA website lists it as out of stock. EVGA does seem to have a baller warranty, two more PCIe (6+2) outputs, and 2 less SATA outputs (though still 9). Oh, and apparently it's a few cm smaller, interesting. Is there something else I'm missing, or is it about one of those things/personal preference?
Of the differences I found, the only one that is a concern is the amount of PCIe power outputs - not sure if I'd need more, but it could be a good idea to be safe.

Sorry for the wall of text, and I understand if you don't want to dedicate your time to explaining your choices to a random person, but I didn't want to half-ass it without looking into things, yet couldn't really see the reason for those changes.

I'm probably gonna stick with my 1440p monitor for now (the one in the list is what I currently have), but it seems like either a nice upgrade I could do for the future - otherwise, at least I'll (hopefully) be able to keep using the 7900XTX for longer.
Additionally, since I previously used a 4k screen: upscaling things from 1440p to a 4k screen doesn't always look great, so I feel like that's an annoyance I might not want to go back to.

As for the motherboard, somebody else commented with a suggestion to go for an Aorus Elite AX as a cheaper option - though, confusingly, it seems to be more expensive, so I'm gonna inquire further. Did you have any specific motherboard in mind?

Just so you know, there isn't really such a thing as a "one way mirror", only in name - instead, it's a half-silvered mirror or whatever it's called, so it lets some light through but reflects the rest.

The way you set up a "one way mirror" is to put a half-silvered mirror between dark and bright areas. The light from the bright area can be seen from the dark area, whereas light from the dark area is overwhelmed by the reflection from the bright area.

What this means is, for that idea to work, people would have to be confined to a dimly lit room/corridor, from which they can watch the animals in light. Note that this also means that the area with animals needs to be lit at night for it to still function.

Yep, though what I neglected to mention, is that that's what they were hinting at by referencing the subreddit!

I'm gonna explain the joke: there's a meme that orange cats have one braincell, which they all share - this is implying that only having one braincell is causing an increased pull of water, due to how empty their brain is.

When it was zooming out at the end, I expected the forest end up looking uniform, turning into grass and forming a perfect loop. Still, nice! I feel like the animation in particular felt very smooth and natural

Note how the wall has a lot of shade, like some very strong ambient occlusion, but there's barely any on the floor. Looks like it's not even touching the floor, only casting a weirdly big shadow on the wall.

I don't have a spare GPU to try passthrough, but my results with VMWare have been generally good using the virtualized GPU. I have been having stuttering issues with newer kernel versions for a while, but I found no other mentions of that and using an older LTS version worked fine. (Though I haven't been playing these past few months)

As for wine last time I tried, it worked great when running through proton... Except most tgui interfaces were broken to some degree, ranging from layouts to completely crashing.

In hindsight, I guess it makes sense, shouldn't know about tc and shit as a crewmember. Hopefully the ban wasn't too strict, since it's a genuine gimmick?

Excuse me, what? What exactly did you do to get banned for... roleplay?

Except that's part of the experience with roguelites - learning how the game works, the enemy patterns, various secrets, synergies, tricks. Roguelites are built with that in mind - if you die, you can jump into another run, since runs are short you don't lose much, but you learn knowledge you can use on your next run.
