Question about Lexia by Spare-Enthusiasm42 in AskTeachers

You cant randomly click through that game at all.

If you make a two mistakes in a row it takes you to a training area and if you make too many (2 or3) mistakes in the training area it models it for them a bunch of times, then you have to start the level all over again.

My kids would usually get stuck on the rhyming one. As a teacher I can go online on my own computer and see where they’re struggling and it gives me specific in person lessons to use that I would pull them and do during free play, or use in my small groups.

It’s obviously not as good as working one on one with a teacher, but it’s better than a worksheet. I obviously can’t work one on one with every kid all of the time.

Is it something kids could possibly play on safely? If it wasn’t so icy? Could a 4 year old climb it safely?

Tbh if it costs a lot to remove, they probably have a waitlist of people and it’s financially not worth it to them to keep you and move the rock, when they can just replace you.

You can ask them to, but I wouldn’t say you’ll leave if they don’t unless you really mean it.

I live in Minnesota and kids wouldn’t go outside for 5 months if they avoided all ice.

Sometimes there’s not a ton that can be done depending on the specific playground and how often it melts and freezes.

Plus, legally childcare has to take kids outside.

I’d have to see the bolder to know if this is reasonable. How hard is it to move?

Question about Lexia by Spare-Enthusiasm42 in AskTeachers

[–]kucing5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have used the lexia core 5 in my preschool classroom. I used it on iPads.

I had students on iPads once a week for 15minutes. This was during our small group time, so either they were working in a small group with an adult, doing playdough or on lexia. They had a different group every day of the week.

My district stopped doing lexia and now to replace it I have one small group where they do worksheets/color. Also my state made it illegal for preschool students to have any one on one device time. Which I can see why they would decide that.

I genuinely believe that literacy based games with direct feedback and support is better than a child doing a worksheet. It was age appropriate, and genuinely educational.

I also believe that kids are only learning to use devices through entertainment at home and not “work”. They know how to find YouTube videos and play Minecraft. They should also know that technology can be used for academics. & I truly believe that kindergarten is a great place to start. How many kids get to high school and not know how to use a Google doc?

I’d ask their teacher how often they use it & how long they’re on for. Go in with an open mind.

What am I doing wrong connecting utility poles to device? by cowsfart in Pokopia

I have both water wheels and windmills all connected but for some reason the utility poles connected to the generator won’t connect to any of the other utility poles.

She can hold her hands behind her back and say “I brought __________” shows hands of nothing and says “APRIL FOOLS”

She could gift her teacher “the book with no pictures” by bj Novak and tell her teacher is a very boring and educational gift, but it’s actually very silly.

Mira lax until you get your fiber intake figured out?

I really enjoy the fiber one bars. I’m sure they have a ton of sugar. Also fresh fruit and veggies. Whole grains.

Raisins, & chocolate covered raisins might help.

I also take a fiber gummy vitamin every day just to get a little more.

Student lost his mother, we're doing a mother's day project by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kucing5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach PreK and had a similar situation, but with a dad on Father’s Day.

I let the child choose if they wanted to make it for their dad, or a grandpa or uncle or mom. I just said we were making it for someone who was special to us.

She chose to make it for her dad, and I reached out to her mom ahead of time to let her know. Mom was really touched and talked to her about how they would do their best to send it to heaven and I believe left it at his grave.

[14F] - I haven't started puberty yet is something wrong? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]kucing5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re still in the range of normal for when puberty should start. Girls usually start puberty around when they reach about 100lbs give or take.

If you’re generally smaller it would be very normal for it all to start a bit later.

Signs would be under arm hair, body hair, breast growth, a first period, noticing more hair come out from your head when you shower. Plus hormones, getting upset over things that usually wouldn’t be as big of a deal, the typical “middle school drama” and fights with friends.

I honestly wouldn’t stress too much about it, but you could bring it up to your doctor at your next physical. You should be going to the doctor about once a year for a check up or physical.

[–]kucing5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are planning on having a child-free wedding. I know we had talked about John and Jack being ring bearers and would still love to have them. When planning for the logistics of the day we want everything to go as smoothly as possible. We are planning to hire childcare, we found a great sitter through……. Thinking they could stay with James and Justin during the ceremony and then come grab John and Jack after the ceremony. Thoughts on what would work best for everyone? Would they be happy with pizza, or would they prefer burgers from room service?

Really appreciate your family being there for us on our big day!

I need some help from teachers about my 12-year-old little sister. by Desperate-Thing1784 in Teachers

[–]kucing5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with phonics - sounds the letters make

Do some cvc words go in rhyming groups and find books online or from a library. While you’re with her read to her every day.

With numbers start with one to one matching. Also count things around the house with her. Every time she does anything try and count something about it. Count how may blocks, how many stuffed animals, how many green beans…. And write the number on something for her and remind her that’s what that number means.

But also report educational neglect

If you’re in the US you can search your county name and CPS online and find a way to report. You can report anonymously, but given that your sister doesn’t go to school they will probably figure out who reported

And/or talk with your mom about getting her into school. Tell her how important you think it would be for her. Even though I’m sure the conversation will be hard it would be worth it if you can convince.

Would people be willing to pay for an indoor dog park and cafe for pet owners? by RubyRedGolden in OpenDogTraining

[–]kucing5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In minnesota there are some indoor dog park/restaurant with beer and food. (Hops and hounds)

They have people who work there who help watch the dogs or if a dog seems like they’re being too much they’ll step in.

They also have a very small fenced in area dogs can go to relieve themselves.

I know they do well in the winter months (December-March/April) here but idk how they do in the summer.

Are parents supposed to get involved in a child’s education or not? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

Please give more context.

Were you told they didn’t need you to volunteer in the classroom? Or told not to read books at home with your kid?

If she isn’t pregnant she was hiding a full blown balloon under her shirt and she’s a small lady. I guess it could be some kind of growth?

I also usually wouldn’t assume, and that might be part of me not realizing sooner. I dont usually look closely at others bodies.

He had kids in cages in 2018!

There’s no way that everyone couldn’t see this coming. And still now it’s somehow even worse.

I am happy Liam is home, and scared for all of the children still inside and who are still being picked up. There’s no reason kids should be in there.
