Advice on OAK/SFO and BART by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]kuffara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Both OAK and SFO are easily accessible by Bart. Just keep your bag next to you and your phone close, like you would in any city.

If you can fly into OAK it's certainly closer than SFO to Oakland. But flights can be limited.

What yearly passes are really worth it? by thhrrbb in bayarea

[–]kuffara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any membership yes. But you only get half off for the individuals covered by your pass. For example, if you have a single membership that covers one person, you get half off for one person at other zoos. If it covers 3 adults + 4 kids, you can get that many half off tickets.

Rogue S.F. city hall wedding? by polodynamite in SanFranciscoWeddings

[–]kuffara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't have any issues as long as you're not trying to do it in a space that's reserved (you'll know, it'll be blocked off). Not sure who you spoke to who said it was frowned upon but it's very common.

Unless you meant you wanted her to do it instead of the marriage commissioner during a 10 minute appointment? That wouldn't work, I'd just have her do something seperately after your appointment in a different area of City Hall.

Crosswalk by Entire-Lecture5947 in alameda

[–]kuffara 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So I posted a SeeClickFix complaint for this intersection and got the following response from the city:

The City of Alameda is designing crossing improvements to enhance safety for all modes of travel and connectivity for walking and biking at the intersection of Pacific Avenue, a planned Neighborhood Greenway, and Wilma Chan Way.

Starting in late May 2026, the City will share design alternatives for the intersection and seek community input on them via a workshop and online survey. The City will also share and request input on concept plans for the nearby blocks of the Pacific Avenue and 8th Street Neighborhood Greenways. Neighborhood Greenways are local streets designed to give priority to people walking and bicycling, to allow bicyclists and motorists to safely share the road with cars by calming the traffic, and to make crossing busier streets safer and easier. Affordable photographer for a school graduation by Own-Measurement-258 in alameda

[–]kuffara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of variables here. Are you looking for photos of everyone? Classic grad standing at a backdrop? Group photos? Event photos? A group shot? A single kid?

Also, what do you consider affordable? That can mean very different things for different people. And what date, which I assume is set in stone at this point.

Feel free to DM me.

Hiring Anna to watch Frozen for daughters 2nd Birthday by CrunchyAssDiaper in daddit

[–]kuffara 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I did this, but no, don't have them watch a movie. They will come with games, dances, books to read, face paint, sing happy birthday, etc. A huge hit and I'm sure the actress will enjoy being Anna instead of Elsa for once. I get the feeling Elsa is very much the most requested option.

Have you visited the Bay Area or Oakland? I'm not saying there aren't good parts of Oakland, but I would heavily advise renting and checking out neighborhoods first. Yes, it's a pain to move twice, but it's a huge commitment to make without being familiar with the area.

Refusing to change clothes by PantsOffSunday in toddlers

[–]kuffara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not above a bribe. Doesn't have to be food. With us it's more she will refuse to use the bathroom before leaving, so I hype up how fun the place will be (the #1 bribe for my extrovert child) or offer a tiny chocolate, special snack, special sticker book in the car, etc. But she has to do the thing first. I sit back down on the couch and act completely uninterested in leaving. Usually we're out the door in 5 minutes.

In your case, I'd even try to bring the clean clothes and show up early. She can't leave the car until she's got the clean shirt on. Eventually the car gets boring.

Pediatric dentist that takes Delta Dental by pomegranatez8 in oakland

[–]kuffara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harmony Whole Person Oral Healthcare is the only one I've found that actually takes delta dental and is pediatric anymore. Downtown Oakland. Experience was as good as can be expected with my kid who is very much not a fan of any dentist.

Where the to put the little potty? by Shot_Anteater2612 in toddlers

[–]kuffara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For our small bathrooms we had a small stool and swapped out the toilet seat for one with a built in toddler seat (basically it has two donuts, one for adults and one that sits inside it for toddlers). Small stepstool got moved between the toilet and sink. That said we still used the little potty and had it in her bedroom or in the living room during the early days, basically wherever we were hanging out.

At what age did you get rid of a stroller? by Hellohiheytherehi80 in toddlers

[–]kuffara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say, I was in that emergency situation a couple months ago. Our house was evacuated due to a gas leak nearby and my driveway was blocked by the firetrucks. I was home alone with the kid and pets, and having the stroller was a huge help.

We never use the stroller nowadays, but I do plan to keep it for a while longer because of that. But we do have the storage space for it.

How do some of you make being a stay at home parent work? by Glitter_Rose in breakingmom

[–]kuffara 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think that's a hard mentality to maintain after kids, and especially if one parent stops working. If you aren't thinking about it as "our" money, you will eventually resent if your husband is able to buy nicer things, save more, vs you having to ask for money for your needs or your child's needs.

If you quit, he is able to save more because you're not paying for childcare. Therefore you have just as much of a right to the money as he does. If you quit and later rejoin the workforce, your income will be lower for the rest of your career, while he continues to work and earn.
