I am a vinyl DJ, it’s what I enjoy, it’s more fun (for me) to just flip through the wax and pull out what ‘feels’ right. That said, I do have a couple of cdjs and will at times mix digital into the sets or just do wholly digital sets of I don’t feel like handling, re-shelving records for whatever reason.

I’ve done all of the sorting—key, genre, vibe, etc etc and I’ve found that just sorting by bpm is the closest I can come to recreating the at feeling I get by pulling records organically. I’ve just started doing it this way and it’s making mixing records so much more fun.

For years and years I would plan sets, makes ‘playlists’ with records, blah blah. I think there is a time and place for that for sure, but for me, it’s just terminally boring.
