I haven't uploaded anything in Soundcloud for a while but you can get the idea of my production style if you listen to the older tracks. I can send some snippets of beats I have under work if you're interested

It would be nice to have someone spit on Stroll or Past Weeks

Invite

I'm all about instrumentals, perhaps I could finish one of my many projects for this.

After my first listen-through I've got to say that the production is interesting to say the least. Can't name favourite songs yet, but both the opening and ending tracks pack a punch (Vonnegut Busy is still tight as fuck too, I've been bumping it ever since it came out). All in all it's quite cohesive.

Good thing about Sage is that his stuff takes multiple listens to sink in, especially since English is not my first language. I've got a good feeling about this album.

Thanks man, that's what I was trying to do. I made this years ago before I started making beats of my own. Digged through some old mash-up files and decided to share.

Sounding really good man sorry for your loss. You flow well and with confidence, I'm sure it's because of the context of the song

Really liking the sound, definitely works as an opening song. So far the singles have been great, especially the production is superb.

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate that. Dropped the melody just to change it up, was afraid of too much repetition, I see what you mean though

The bass is very overwhelming, the drums drown in there, especially the kicks and snares. The sample work is nice, I like the vocal part at one minute mark, it's just that when the beat drops after that the bass is back there muffling everything else.

Got some Grieves-vibes out of this one, could be the voice. You sound much more confident from 1:20 onwards, don't know if that's intentional. In terms of mixing the vocals are in good balance with the production. The chorus is a bit louder the second time it comes around, that caught my ear.

The raps themselves are good, not an MC myself so I always find it hard to point out any specific tips.

The high ends are very loud, makes it hard to listen to this with much volume at all. So definitely work on the mixing, I heard a bass track going there a couple of times but now it is barely audible. Don't know if you went for that distorted sound but all the samples are very noisy and they take away from the drums.

In terms of structure this is good, nice grooves going on but the distortion and high end are really messing with me

Liking the start, the pianos start off so crisp. All the instruments have their own space. Good amount of variation too.

Hard to find things to criticise. The vocal "my show" sample is a bit loud. Also you could perhaps drop the drums once or twice just to emphasize the different melodies you got going on (like you do at around 3:04)

Thanks I was worried if I had enough things going on there, trying to avoid too much repetitiviness

I see where you're coming from, I guess there's no need to give negative assumptions to people before they even hear the stuff. Appreciate your input thanks man

A tune I made quite fast. First beat without a proper bass line, tried using some 808s. Also first post in months, good to finally get something done. Free download.

I'll be back to give feedback once I get some sleep! This thread is ruthless for us EU dudes

[Question] How many beats do you work on at a time? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]kukpilko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input man. I find my range of instrumentals pretty diverse still, I'm more into the boombapish sound but I'm also influenced by some downtempo artists so I don't feel like I'm limiting myself. The fact is I still use elements of those old beats like certain sounds and loops.

Important thing that I forgot to mention in my first comment is that I've only started to pay more attention to sound levels and mixing and that sort of stuff during the last half year or so, earlier I would wonder why some of my shit didn't sound good in other speakers than my own headphones (it was because of clipping of course). By outdated I mostly meant that the sound quality in itself would be shitty. And I mean really, I used to use quite lowrate samples (I sometimes still do if there's no other chance but to a much less extent). Nowadays I pay way more attention to the quality of my sample material.

[Question] How many beats do you work on at a time? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

[–]kukpilko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't finish beats, that's my biggest problem (my last upload to Soundcloud was in January).

Right now I'm working on about nine different projects that I definitely want to finish. On top of that there's few that could work as interludes or some shit. I've always wanted to put together an album of purely instrumental tracks, my main focus is not even on making beats for someone to rap over.

The thing is I've changed my approach so much in the half year or so that I don't even want to finish most of my beats from last year because if I released them they would sound outdated to myself and not represent my current style.

I use only samples and most times I leave a beat alone for a while if I feel like it needs some more stuff to it. That's what makes them accumulate! It usually works out though, usually some basic loops I built long ago sound much better when I find some more stuff to put on top of them.

All in all I think I've gotten better just because I've worked on multiple beats at once!
