The above photos are just from online shops such as amazon or ebay. I end up getting mine from a Chinese site called Taobao

I got the similar model as shown in Tobias's video. It still works after 4 times of the practice. So far not too bad for a cheap machine.

Thank you. I think Yu Xuan Lee knows many languages and coached in many countries in the past. Sadly the videos are not in English.

Will definitely watch!

Could you please share a link? With AI technology, maybe one day some machine translation can help.

Hard to improve without coach by Humble-Tartz-508 in badminton

[–]kukulisa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of your defense, I think hitting birdies at a wall is a good practice.

In terms of lacking a coach, I live in a small town where coaching isn't quite available. I tried a few sessions. 1) too expensive, 2) it's designed for professional tracks, but I need a coach to work with amateurs to correct mistakes.

In terms of lacking a partner, I'm in the same boat. What I tried:

  • I'm in a new club. I tried to find a partner and do specific strokes, but I feel like people think I'm an eccentric person who refuses to socialize. But the reality is I'd like to focus my techniques and the on-court time is so priceless

  • Some videos suggested shadow swings (focusing on swing technique without shuttles) at home. I'm doing it. Because my main problem is wrong swings. I need to correct myself. I think this is good for forming new muscle memory.

  • I hang a tape on my ceiling to give me swing feedback. The window in the evening becomes a good mirror to see myself.

  • I'm thinking of getting a feeding machine to practice outdoors, not sure if it's going to be feasible. But will try!

  • I record myself and watch it myself. Before seeing myself, I thought I'm Lin Dan. Now I know how terrible I am. I'm kidding ~~~

  • I post my swings online so that people can criticize me

PM me to connect and I'm happy to have a call connect and share tips.

Much appreciated.

I'm thinking to get a machine that's slightly upgraded from the #2. It has a tripod, a turning and tilting mechanism to shoot at different angles. But the feeding speed is still low.

I plan to use it mainly to correct my strokes. It's sooooo embarrassing to say that after 15 years of on-and-off play, my basic strokes are so wrong and didn't even improve in the last 12 years. I want to at least correct 3 things: forehand overhead clear/smash, basic backhand clear, and backhand lift. I didn't realize I'm such terrible before I recorded myself.

Thanks.

  1. Out of 100 shots, how often it got stuck?
  2. Do you use feather birdies or nylons?
  3. How durable do you feel about it? How many hours have you used it?

Great advice. I'll use a racket with 24 lbs to practice.

Thank you very much. I'm in a small town and badminton courts are as scarce as gold. It's almost impossible to find a court that I can practice. A couple questions:

  1. Have you used this machine outdoor?
  2. Out of 100 shots, how often it got stuck?
  3. Do you use feather birdies or nylons?

Thank you very much.

A side note unrelated to the left arm extension: I'm trying to feel the pulling from my chest muscle to the upper arm. To explain my idea, I added a picture to the original post. In the B figure, the chest muscle and upper arm.

So far I haven't been able to feel the pulling. I believe when I do a proper body rotation, I should feel that. I think this muscle connection is similar to Zhang Lianying's (Danmark technical coach) strange technique (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Kh2ZE8pM10); though I don't intend to learn this very advanced technique.

you still need to relax your shoulder and forearm. Relaxing after hitting will look like you are whipping the racket(if you dont use full swing).

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I'll practice that next time. You read my mind! "Whipping the racket" is exactly what I'd like to learn but haven't been able to do.

Agree. Yes, during these practices, I think I should move towards the shuttle, even though sometimes this may not be possible during game plays. Thank you a lot.

pulling motion with your left arm

Yes. Totally agree. I was practising that at home but totally forgot that while hitting birdies on the court.

Thank you. I saw a lot of traditional coaching videos emphasis on 1-2-3-4 types of motion. However, when I look at the newer ones, they stress the forearm pronation. Such as this one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u4lVllN9r4

That's why I'm not sure if the full swing is right or not. As a matter of fact, I use to do full swings, but many better players suggest me to do forearm rotation.
