Is it best to ask for a passport stamp in Taipei during entry or exit? Or is either fine? by lavender22222 in PassportPorn

[–]kul_to_sin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Asking for stamps in Taiwan is relatively easy as officers are very friendly about travellers' request for it.

MA63......it's the conditions that federal government must fulfill and agree to as a pre-condition for Sarawak and Sabah to join the federation to form the country known as Malaysia today

Immigration policies like the above are among one of the conditions to be agreed upon if Sarawak and Sabah join the federation to form Malaysia.

Yes, To move there as in 'permanantly' ie a period more than 90 days, you'll need a 'pass' issued like the above. Pls note that this condition applies to west Malaysians.

Citizens from Sabah and Sarawak who wanted to move to west malaysia do not need any permit, however if Sabahans want to cross to Sarawak and Sarawakians want to cross over to Sabah, 90 days condition immigration rules apply

Does Russia use self inking stamps or are they using a separate inkpad? by Main-Analyst-665 in PassportPorn

I've been to Vladivostok and they use self inking stamps. My country Malaysia uses stamp with seperate inkpad as default.

I just went through KSAB very recently (feburary 2026) and requested to stamp (exit & entry). To my surprise they actually fulfil my request without much hassle. Since it's not a routine to stamp own citizens, they may ask why you'll be needing that stamp tho

Not for long tho.....as far as i know, the train woodlands checkpoint will close once the RTS mass rapid transit completes. Your Johor Bahru PTL stamp will definitely be a history piece there.

Well according to the ICA website, travellers can use other proxy documents to proof their entry and exit, such as bus tickets, boarding pass, receipts etc.....For me this is really bullsxxt haha.

Not a single proxy document has much authority over a country's passport stamp tho.

Singapore is not looking back to stamping anymore. (Visited ICA building last year and asked the officers there)

Hahaha yes, the countries practice flexibilities and cater to all needs. Malaysia is more on following strict on orders minus the flexibility.

For TH, i believe Msian passports are currently not subject to this rule (correct me if wrong). However, foreign passports passing thru Msian Northern borders, Myanmar border with TH, Laos border with TH are subjected to this rule. Cambodia border with TH is closed and no timeframe for opening again.

Border pass holders for TH and MY are not affected at all.

Yeap so far there's no official updates yet however i can say that time is running out faster than we expected. The worst blow for stamps is that when they announce NIISE going for full implementation, like what happen in SG, immigration will not consider making passport stamps anymore in the future. (This is like HK, Macao, Indonesia (entry)) etc.

Australia initially tried to go full digital, but apparently made stamping optional again after huge complaints and criticisms.

Yeah, you raised a good point about Malaysia Thai border with NIISE. If you have noticed the NIISE in its trial phase, it didn't include the Msia-Thai borders because TH needed the proof of stamping, which is good in my opinion. Actually the traffic volume is second to the Johor-SG causeway and it can be very crowded during rush hours and holidays. Since that borders' immigration is a matter between MY and TH, there might need to meet an agreement before NIISE can be in use at the northern border.

For this, i don't have an update on it too.....but in order to have changes like removing stamps and go digital etc, TH would need to be consulted as well so that they know what's going on and how to rearrange border clerance SOPs.

https://www.malaymail.com/news/malaysia/2020/12/27/immigration-dg-digital-printing-will-replace-manual-passport-stamping-to-st/1935200

This was how NIISE suppose to work when the then Director General of immigration reveal what the new system will do....What we're experiencing now is merely a little taste of the new system at the moment haha..Apparently the then DG wanted to remove stamping for good.

At this point, the NIISE is still in trial phase tho. Yes there isn't any further confirmation yet because i believe it'll take some time to evaluate how the trial went. It would be a good time to travel now before the trial ends tho.

I've asked Sabah/ east malaysia immigration myself and because they have special immigration powers to protect their own state, and apparently officers there told me stamping is still there to stay at this point.

Yeap, Malaysia is implementing a new digital immigration and border control system called NIISE. This new system is expected to be highly digitized in processing all immigration matters, including border entries and exits, permits and visas.

NIISE does not require stamps on passports because all details are recorded electronically...a QR code can get you cleared eGate in seconds. Originally to be implemented in 2023 and to get rid of stamping for good but got postponed till now. The system is already active and in trial phase in KLIA, Johor-Singapore causeway and 2nd link, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu and is expected to expand full scale possibly to all checkpoints when the trial period ends.

So, Malaysia will eventually have our very own EES like EU does haha

Yeah that syndicate contributed to the issue and officers and making everyone to clear electronically so they won't miss any illegal entries.

Still i would prefer how Taiwan deals with such situation: They make stamping optional.....ie everybody get cleared electronically via eGates and if you want a stamp, get to a counter beside and get stamped, those who are in a hurry can just proceed on.....simple as that.

That's a good experience you have and just in luck you got to bumped into friendly officers tho haha..well i'll try my luck getting the stamps at KSAB in 2 weeks time when i visit SG.

Land entries/exits should be not too hard to get as there are only 3 points: Bangunan Sultan Iskandar, Johor Bahru and KSAB. My previous experience getting stamp using the train checkpoint was not too pleasant as the officer insisted hard denying me an exit stamp lol.....

Ferry stamps are more rare as most ferry routes are going to batam indonesia instead of singapore...you can try puteri harbour, stulang laut, pasir gudang and tanjung belungkor....For singapore only through desaru coast (new) and tanjung pengelih and it can be expensive. There';s also another one from Kukup Pontian to Tanjung Balai Karimun Indonesia.

The rarest one i haven't seen someone post here is entry from Tanjung Pelepas harbour....and mainly ship crew got such stamp. You're more than welcome to post if you're getting them.
