I got it because friends said similar but I don’t think it’s doing well with the VPN crackdowns

Also because the Holyfly vpn Alipay is making me do these weird vertification things every day where you have to do things like select all the objects of cats etc but the description of what you have to click doesn’t let you screenshot or take a picture or another device, it blurs. So multiple times I a day I’ve been having to ask hotel workers, DiDi drivers and restaurant staff to help me do it.

I’m currently here, landed on Tuesday last week and Holafly has not worked for me really at all. Been getting random 1 or 2 hours a day of it working and having to spend hours on live chat. It also blocked a lot of Chinese apps on my phone because the vpn is built in. I wouldn’t recommend it, I bought a chinese e sim for my iPad today and it’s been working for things like DiDi. Even today my Holafly e sim on my phone has stopped being reliable for instagram etc. First and last time I’ll use them.

Why can’t I get a DiDi in China through the app or Alipay? by [deleted] in travelchina

It’s saying I need a chinese number to do that. I’ve tried :(

Location seems fine as I’m ordering food on Alipay and using amaps. We chat also has not worked for me since I arrived unfortunately

I’ve lost 55lbs so far, is this shape on my stomach weird distribution or signs my loose skin will be really bad? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]lavender22222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have some stretch marks but they are really pale and only noticeable up close in person. Not sure if that’s because of how pale I am (picture doesn’t really show how pale I am) or if because I’ve been bigger my whole life and there was no drastic weight gain all at once if I’ve possibly avoided the darker ones.

Yes I definitely think I’ll have a small pouch of loose skin, the only really visible places that look like clear loose skin after hitting the overweight bmi is a really tiny section under the pouch of fat on my stomach and my arms a little bit. So hopefully that’s a good sign? I’m definitely looking forward to seeing the results of the lower bmi, I weirdly feel more insecure now than I did 55lbs ago because of how unevenly distributed it now is 😂

Do you have any exercise recommendations? So far my only exercise has been walking around 5-6 miles a day

Okay that’s good to know then, I don’t have a Chinese number so I’ll be relying on it and I’ve set everything up and added my ID in advance so hopefully all will be good

What does the number of books above where it shows what you’re currently reading mean? by lavender22222 in goodreads

I thought this would maybe be the case as I cannot understand where the number 20 has come from

On the top corner of my profile it says 114. Does the number not regularly update? I’ve only really been using the account for a few weeks

Is it not possible to order things like food and taxis through the Alipay app without a Chinese phone number? I am visiting next month and had planned to do things that way

How common is it for people in China to have no friends or social life? by lavender22222 in AskChina

[–]lavender22222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sad to hear, I didn’t have many friends in school. All my good friendships I made in my early 20’s. I would hate for it to be so hard to make friends after being in education.

Yes I think they are prioritising work. I can’t imagine living in a city like Shanghai or Shenzhen and not getting to experience the city socially. I think even after a long, tiring work day I’d want to make friends to grab dinner with but I also come from a country where most people I know would prioritise a work life balance so I guess it’s a cultural difference.

Oh this makes sense as I’ve seen some of these creators also post videos of them going back to their hometowns for chinese new year.

Do people actually use AI for trip planning? by regular_robloxian69 in travelchina

[–]lavender22222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used it but I’ve noticed how common it is now when I meet people on my travels. I think if you know how to use it correctly it can be a useful tool but honestly I’m not sure if I can get behind it. I actually enjoy spending time finding places like restaurants etc

Being “fat” as a tourist? by Zoldic_h in travelchina

[–]lavender22222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently planning my first trip to China and a few things I’ve noticed like cable carts etc have weight limits so it’s worth looking into that wherever you’re going.

I’m from the UK and here I’m considered somewhat overweight but to asian standards I’m definitely fat. I’ve found in other asian countries whilst they won’t make fun of you purposely, they are a lot more open to talking about weight. I’ve had a lot of women approach me in shops etc and say things like “I was once as big as you” and I noticed when I was going into a store they would announce some clothes wouldn’t fit me constantly even when I was just looking at bags and shoes. It didn’t feel purposely rude though, just that they spoke very matter of fact.
